Italy with a little bit of Athens, Greece

My husband and I chose to see as much of Italy as we could for our honeymoon.  We were in Rome for 6 days, Florence for 3 and Venice for 2, with a side trip to Athens, Greece for 2 days.  We had the time of our lives.  Rick Steves' made fabulous recommendations for hotel and restaurants.  Beware of shower size, it's amazing how little they are and how spoiled we are in the States!  I'm not a big person, neither is my husband, but even we made it interesting.  Don't even THINK about nookie in the shower!  Rome was fabulous and we found a great Irish pub named Finnegans on VIa Leonina off of Via Cavour very near the Colosseum where we met the splendid Sam and Sean, bartenders of British and Irish decent respectively.  They were fabulous and made the place a home away from home for us, especially when we tired of wine!  Venice and St. Mark's Square is simply fabulous and we were entertained nightly there with the dualling orchestras and a little shop on the corner near St. Mark's Basilica with American in the name.  They made great drinks and had potent limoncello.  A gondola ride was icing on the cake!  We also did a Tuscan wine and dinner Tour that was simply amazing.  We met a great couple and their daughter from Australia and had fun that will never be forgotten.  Our cheapest hotel was in Athens - Hotel Tempi - and it had a view of the Acropolis.  Each night we would sit on our tiny balcony with a glass of wine and watch the people and cats and dogs while staring at the Acropolis and savor each moment.
Expect the airports to have TONS of stairs! With luggage it's, at times, painful They are not nearly as well laid out as I was accumstomed - and I am spoiled by O'Hare International Airport so that's tough to beat.
We brought cash to convert which made life easier.  No ATM hassle or scams, no transaction fees.  We brought a Capital One credit card for the big purchases (hotels, UPS store, special dinner) due their having the best conversion and transactoin rates.
When it comes to restaurants, hotels and tips pay attention to whatever RIck Steves' says.  His books and podcasts are everywhere.  He gives you plenty of helpful warnings and inside tips that make your travel, stay and trip much better.  I planned the whole thing with the help of his books and website and we had the time of our life!  It was a dream honeymoon and there's no one I would have rather done it with!
