Bora Bora/Polynesian Islands under $5000?

Hi, I'm new to the honeymoon boards, but active on my local board.  My dream honeymoon, like many other people, is to stay in an over-water bungalow in Bora Bora/French Polynesia.  I don't really care about which island, as long as I see beautiful warm, clear water below my bungalow.

Is this vacation possible at all for at least 4 days for $5,000 (or under)?

Re: Bora Bora/Polynesian Islands under $5000?

  • Not from what I've seen, FI and I looked into it and it's around $4-5K pp for a week.  I doubt that knocking off a few nights would save you all that much money though, not to mention that's an awfully long flight for only 4 nights.

  • No, unfortunately not. Look at the Eastern Carribean though, some of the islands are just as beautiful!
  • I agree with PP's you could easily take a 7-8 day honeymoon in the caribbean for definitely with in your budget, I know your dream is bora bora but at the same time if you can only afford a few days, I wouldn't want to have that long of a flight for just a few days, I'd make than an anniversary trip in a few years and save up for a full week! thats just me though
  • Yeah, ditto pps.  Most overwaters in FP are $1k a night and up.  You could probably find a standard hotel room in FP for your budget, though I wouldn't fly all the way out there for four nights.  You could also stay in an overwater somewhere else - they definitely have them closer to the US than French Polynesia without the expensive price tags.

  • No, the cheapest I've seen is $3500 per person that includes dinner every night.  If you're really wanting Bora Bora or Tahiti, maybe stay 1 or 2 nights in the bungalow and then switch to a regular hotel room for the rest of the week.

  • Sorry, it can't be done for that price.  Airfare alone to get there is very expensive.  Ditto PP to look at bungalows in the Eastern Caribbean.  Good luck!
  • The airfare alone (you're coming from S Florida, right?) would consume most of your budget.  Ditto everyone else's recommendation that you look for a place in the Caribbean that offers the over-water bures.
  • Airfare for LAX-Tahiti came to almost $3k.  And you'd have to get yourself from Florida to LA (NYC-LAX is over $1k for two tickets).  So I agree with PPs, it'll be next to impossible to do the trip for that amount, unless you only stay a night or two, which wouldn't be worth it.

  • I think if you have an offseason time like Februaryish. You could probably do it,but you would also have to spend maybe one or two nights in the over water bungalow and then get a regular bungalow the other nights. We are spending almost 9k for 8 days and 7 nights from LAX, over water bungalow every night but the first.
  • We were in Moorea for 10 days, flying from jersey and it was $16,000 for the two of us.
  • It wouldn't be IMPOSSIBLE, but damn near so. But do try and check Costco online for travel packages. A good amount of TripAdvisor travellers used them to book their FP trips and got some amazing deals. We are going to hilton moorea and 4Seasons for a total of 9 days (but flying business class and staying in the most premium 4S OWB) and it's more than 20K....  Surprised
