*Book Club* Questions Pt.4

1- There are rumors of a sequel, as well as a movie.  Will you read future instalments or see the movie9s0? Where do you think Riggs will take his readers next?

2- The author claims that all photos in the book are originals and none were Photoshopped.  Do you think any were changed to fit the story? If so, which ones and what do you think was altered about them?

  • 1- There are rumors of a sequel, as well as a movie.  Will you read future instalments or see the movie9s0? Where do you think Riggs will take his readers next? I definitly want to read another book. As I said before, I want to know what happens next! As for a movie, I'd watch it but I'm sure it wouldn't be as good, they never are.

2- The author claims that all photos in the book are originals and none were Photoshopped.  Do you think any were changed to fit the story? If so, which ones and what do you think was altered about them? I love that the photos are real! While I'm sure some where changed slightly I think that mostly the author used them to inform the descriptions.

1- There are rumors of a sequel, as well as a movie.  Will you read future instalments or see the movie(s)? Where do you think Riggs will take his readers next?    Because I enjoyed this book very much and I became very interested in various characters, I’m looking forward to see where they end up and what we learn about these current characters as well as new characters that may be introduced.  This book ended with the children in row boats with a scene of battle ships in the distance.  I’m not sure where Riggs where take his readers but I think it’s pretty obvious that it will still center around WWII. I always like to see the movies that are made based on books, especially after I’ve read the book.  I like to see who close the movie sticks to the storyline.  I will definitely be seeing this movie, if and when it is released.

2- The author claims that all photos in the book are originals and none were Photoshopped.  Do you think any were changed to fit the story? If so, which ones and what do you think was altered about them?     I think there are photos in the book that may have been altered. They are a followed:
Pg. 46- “Girl in the bottle”- If you look at the picture closely you lose the outline of the bottle in the photo where the neck of the bottle expands.
Pg.48- “The Boy-Faced Dog”- It looks like the human face was pasted on top of a photo of a dog rolling over.  You can also see the top of the head and an eye of the dog.
Pg.113- “The Reflecting Pool”- When you look at the 2 reflections of the girl neither one of them is waving or has the arm up like the “real” girl.
Pg.208- “Miss Nightjar takes all the hard cases”- The women on the left and middle o the picture look like their faces were copied onto the bodies. The woman in the middle has a very clear face while the woman on the right is rather blurry in comparison.
Pg.260- “Victorian Dentist”- His eyes are pure white. You could almost say it looks sinister or demonic.

  • 1- There are rumors of a sequel, as well as a movie.  Will you read future instalments or see the movie9s0? Where do you think Riggs will take his readers next? I will definitely read the sequal where I think Riggs will take the readers to another loop. I will not likely see the movie since they are definitely rarely as good as the moviees.

2- The author claims that all photos in the book are originals and none were Photoshopped.  Do you think any were changed to fit the story? If so, which ones and what do you think was altered about them? I think page 208 is Photoshopped. I agree with the previous comment about the head looking cropped.

Probably but I wouldn't rush out for them.  The end of the first book basically set it up that they were going to another loop so I'm going to assume this is where they will go, where they will try to find the kidnapped. They'll succeed.

I smell bs. Even if HE personally didn't alter them, they were altered from the beginning.  So yes, I think they were original photographs that were originally manipulated.

  • I agree with avsfan33. While I don't think the author altered the photos I'm sure they were altered at some point. Probably with old darkroom tricks like Jacob first thought. I mean most photshop would be a lot better than these!

yes, I would definitely see the movie - it would be really interesting to see the peculiars come to life.  a book I wouldn't be quite as excited about, but I would definitely read it.

I think it is really interesting how he claimed that the photos all came from collector's trunks.  there is no way that the photos are actually, truly legitimate. as I said in another one of the questions, I kept finding myself critiquing the attempts of photographer's to make magic in the pictures, and I wanted to know how they were doing all of the tricks.  I don't think the author actually changed any - he seemed really intense about wanting to have legit photos in the book.  But as others have said, these are obviously not real children.
  • From what I could find, it looks like it was rumored Tim Burton would take a shot at making a film of this.  I would def be into that since I think this kind of story would be right up his alley.

I would also read the sequels if they happened... just to see what happens next.  Like avsfan, I would not rush for them either, though.

  • 1- There are rumors of a sequel, as well as a movie. Will you read future instalments or see the movie9s0? Where do you think Riggs will take his readers next? I think i would watch the movie and read the sequel, the book was pretty interesting for the most part. I think a lot of people can associate themselves with Jacob's character. I think Riggs will hopefully start off at what happened or what is going to happen with Jacob and the rest of the peculiar children since the loop no longer exists.

2- The author claims that all photos in the book are originals and none were Photoshopped. Do you think any were changed to fit the story? If so, which ones and what do you think was altered about them? I don't believe for 1 minute that those photos were actually real, I don't know. There is a lot of technology out there to make things look very real, just take paranormal activity for example looks totally real, but it was so fake.

  • 1. I'm not sure about the movie, but I'd love to read the sequel. I wish the author would not have written such an open ending though. I'd have been curious to what happened next if he'd been less 'sloppy' about it.

    2. Of course these where manipulated, but not by the author I guess. I think he is sincere about using them from collectors. I can see how this had been a fad a century ago, and how nowadays some peculiar people make their hobby out of them. I loved the background info about the photos, and I think the author wrote his characters around the pictures instead of the other way around.

  • You know what's going to irritate me the most about the movie now? The fact that there were pictures included and NONE of the actors are going to look like the people in the pictures.
