FI wants to plan HM without my help...

So.... Fi wants free rein to plan our honeymoon without any input from me. He wants it to be a complete surprise. I'm nervous about that. Not that I think it won't be great, but, because... well.... too be honest... I'm a pretty big type A personality when it comes to that stuff...

I was really hoping that we could plan it together, but FI is adamant that I be surprised when we leave for it.

Any thoughts?? Should I let go and give him what he wants?

  • I think that sounds pretty cool to be honest. I know a lot of people would hate that, but I would love it. BUT if you would hate not knowing where you were going, then deeeefinitely don't do it.

  • I would let him plan it, maybe just tell him what are some things you want (ie, beach versus adventure, or a small resort or B&B, etc)- generalities.
  • I agree with megandjay, establish parameters of things you want to be able to do in your honeymoon (and things/places you dont) and let him take the reins!

I'm a bit like that too actually, and I had to realize that at the end of the day- you're with the man you love and its only one of MANY trips you'll take together and as long as you've outlined what you want be confident that he'll incorporate that in the planning.

    happy planning!!

  • I'm letting him think he's planning it.  He wanted to surprise me but we (well, me) decided it would be better if we picked somewhere we both liked.  Thanks to my involvement we will not be in Costa Rica during rainy season or the Dominican Republic smack dab in the middle of hurricane season.  I started ordering brochures and signing him up for email offers so he's getting lots of great ideas now.
We ran off to Vegas and got married!
  • I would absolutely hate it too! I honestly don't know if I could do that. But if it is super important to him and you can live with it, go for it. Set perimters, let him know what you were thinking, and I would probably request you get at least a week's notice to make sure you have the clothes, items you will need for that location.

  • FI planned ours. I know where were going and for how long, etc...but he planned it all and just let me know. It was an awesome break from planning. One thing I could check off our list
May 2011-December Siggy My favorite registry item.
