Dec. 2010 Honeymoon Help

Hi Ladies! I need some advice: we're getting married just before Christmas and are planning to go on our honeymoon immediately after the wedding. We are having trouble deciding on where to go in the Caribbean.

We like relaxing on the beach but also enjoy getting out and being active. We'd also like a place with some type of nightlife (no casinos). Any advice on the perfect Island?

We’ve even considered Tahiti or Bora Bora but I’m concerned with the weather that time of year. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Fi & I went to the Cayman Islands this past December for 5 days and had a great time. Seven Mile Beach is stunning and there are definitely ways to make it more active. While we there, we took a trip to Sting Ray City, which incorporated snorkeling. We also did a jet ski/snorkeling safari and rented a kayak from our hotel and just paddled around the shore line. We even spent a cloudy day exploring Georgetown. If you scuba, there are lots of excursions you can do for that. I can't comment on the night life because that's not really our scene--we're early risers and day drink instead--but when we were in Georgetown there were definitely bars.
 
If you're looking for something with more nightlife, Cancun might be a good option as well. We've stayed at the Royal in Cancun. It's all inclusive and really very romantic. Food is also phenomenal. Town is only a short bus ride away and I think the hotel may have even provided a shuttle one way. You just had to find your way back at the end of the night. While we were there, we swam with dolphins, did a booze cruise to Isla de Mujeres, and jet ski/snorkeled.

I always wanted Tahiti and Bora Bora myself, but decided against it since I am also a December bride and weather during that time of the year is not desirable. I am doing St. Lucia, but I was going for a more relax and not do that much in gorgeous scenery feel; it was one of the Carib. islands that I haven't visited yet.  Mexico might be a good fit for you. Riviera Maya offers a lot of wonderful properties and isn't that far from Cancun if you wanted the best of nightlife/activities and the privacy of a well kept resort. I have only been to Aventura Spa Palace in Riviera Maya, but I am sure there are a mountain of resorts to choose from.

We're really trying to stay away from Mexico. Regarding nightlife - we aren't partiers by any means - we're just looking for someplace to grab a drink and enjoy ourselves for an hour or so after dinner. We spend Thanksgiving in Kauai two years ago and loved it, but got a little bored at night.  We love boat rides and I'd love to try snorkling/jet skiing! I've heard great things about Cayman Islands, Barbados and St. Lucia. All suggestions were great and much appreciated!

This is a tough decision! Have you looked at the Dominican Republic? It’s actually one of my favorite places in the Caribbean. I just love the tropical atmosphere and always feel at home there. One resort I would check out is Secrets Sanctuary Cap Cana. Secrets Sanctuary is a great all-inclusive adults only resort that is absolutely gorgeous. I think it would be the perfect place for your honeymoon. The beach is great and the resort offers tons of activities ranging from beach football to cocktail making classes.
