South Africa honeymoon

Has anyone ever looked into  or gone on a South African honeymoon or trip? We're looking into this, also, and it looks amazing...but I want to know what hotels are worth staying at.

Re: South Africa honeymoon

  • I was perusing the travel section of CNN and found this travel article on Johannesburg   and then saw your post:

    Hello,

I went to South Africa four years ago for a little over two weeks. It was amazing, and I would highly recommend going if you can! I want to go back (we're actually honeymooning in Tanzania on a long safari instead). I spent some time in JoBurg, Cape Town and at Victoria Falls in Zambia. We did a few days at Mabula Game Lodge, which is about two hours away from JoBerg. It was great -- game drives and relaxation (it was pretty much all-inclusive). I think there are some better places you can go for the game drives (such a Kruger) that we just didn't have time to fit in. JoBurg is a big city, and we stayed in a suburb that was Rose something. There was a lot of history and learning there (the Apartheid Museum was very interesting), but the city was honestly only okay. Cape Town was a-maze-ing. Beaches and mountains and wineries and penguins. Really, what more can you ask for? I can't remember the name of our hotel, but it was right near the V & A Waterfront and was a nice place to stay. I would also recommend heading to Zambia to see Victoria Falls -- they are awesome.  We stayed at the Zambezi Sun, which is literally a five minute walk from the Falls and has animals on it (my friend got too close and got kicked by a zebra, and monkeys were stealing things out of bags of people laying out by the pool). If I remember right, it was an all-inclusive deal and really gorgeous.

    Hope this helps.
  • we stayed at Ulusaba in South Africa.  I would highly recommend staying there if you can afford it.  I've started a saving fund for our return.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Hi--- We are going for our honeymoon in Jan.
PM me and I'll send you all of our travel info.

I work for National Geographic--- so I just let our travel crew plan the whole thing here.  We'll see how it ends up! ;)
