Honeymoon Discussions

Ireland

So my Fiance and I are thinking of taking a very short trip to Dublin for our honeymoon. I love everything Irish and he is of Irish decent. I was wondering if anyone had been there or has done some extensive looking into of Ireland. I don't even know where to start as far as places to stay or go to.

We went to Ireland a few years ago after college.  Honestly, Dublin was our least favorite town.  The countryside is much more beautiful so I'd encourage you to explore other areas as well.  We spent most of our time in the Dingle peninsula and really liked it.

  • We live in in England.  I went to Ireland years ago and we are going back to Dublin in March for St Pattys Day.  As PP said, Dublin was my least favorite city to vist while touring the UK, its not really a "honeymoon" - BUT you could make a realy trip of it and see ireland, outside of dublin - the countryside is just beautiful and more scenic than dublin.  Maybe a few days in Dublin then the other days exploring other towns?

  • We are heading to Ireland for our honeymoon next month. :) We are flying in and out of Dublin and renting a car. We will be doing a lot of driving and exploring Dublin, Galway, and heading north to Lough Erne, all the while staying in 5 star resorts. We got a great package deal for the hotel and car through Sceptre tours.
  • We will be basing ourselves out of Dubin for a portion of our HM - only 3 days - and will be staying at Hampton Hotel in Donnybrook in Dublin.  A good friend of ours who is Irish has recommended this part of town as a good, quiet part for honeymooners, but still not too far from the rest of the bars, etc. in town.

  • I spent two weeks in Ireland this past spring.
Started in Dublin, then Kilkenny, Cork, Kinsale, Kilarney, Limerick and Galway.

I loved Dublin...There are so many great restaurants and shops..also Powerscourt (20 mins away) was AMAZING!

That said, Kinsale and Galway were my favorite towns...Both seaside towns with tons of charm and artsy feel.

Do a little research and see what appeals to you.  I love Tripadvisor.com for ratings and reviews.

PM me if you want any details or recommendations once you narrow down your search.

  • I lived in Ireland and also attended University there.

Dublin was definitely a day visit for me.

Like other PP mentioned the country side was much more beautiful. Galway, Connemara, Kinsale all gorgeous, I loved Kilkenny and Kerry (The Ring of Kerry is a great tour)

Cliffs of Moher is a must see- my jaw dropped when I saw these in person- absolutely the most breathtaking sight ever. EVER.

Also Belfast in  the North was incredible - made it all the way to Giant's Causeway - incredible scenery. Carrick en Rede Bridge - holy Hell bags - AWESOME - google it!

:) PM me if you want more information I'm a self confessed die-hard Ireland expert!  :)

  • Hi all,
I live in Ireland and you all are pretty tuned in!
As mentioned, Dublin is ok for a day but on a short trip it would be really difficult then  to really see the country. The 'real' Ireland.
    If you can fly into Shannon absolutely do. The West has so much to offer. Co Kerry with Dingle {where I live} and the Ring of Kerry, Co Clare and the Cliffs of Moher and Burren, co Cork with lovely little fishing towns in teh west, Kinsale and Blarney Castle {but don't kiss it!}
good luck and have fun!! Sometimes the best thing to do in Ireland is not to have a plan!
