September 25 2010 Honeymoon help

I am looking for a good honeymoon idea. I am trying to keep it under 3,000. I live in memphis,tn and would like somewhere that's driveable. I've been to Gatlinburg too many times to count so that's out of the question. I wouldn't mind flying somewhere but flights are so expensive.

  • Is there anywhere you'd really like to go?  Because you can actually find LOTS of great deals for flights and accommodations under $3000.  In fact, I went to Cancun, Mexico a few years ago with friends and my entire package for round-trip airfare, transportation to and from the hotel, and an all-inclusive resort (accommodations and unlimited drinks, food, and some activities) was all about $1200.  The resort was nice and we had a direct flight from Indianapolis that only lasted about 3-4 hours, so it wasn't a long flight.  So, something like that can definitely be done with your budget ($3000) and little travel time if you're willing to search for deals and make it work.  Mexico is not your only choice though.  You can also find LOTS of deals in the Caribbean also.  Let us know what you're looking for and we might be able to help you.  Good luck!
  • Thank you! I'd like for it to be somewhere in the US not mexico though...maybe somewhere on the east coast. Somewhere romantic not a party place.

Ditto this.. I find that it's a lot cheaper to go to an AI in Mexico or the Caribbean instead of staying at a hotel that'll run you a couple hundred a night and needing to pay for all your food, drinks, and activities.

Cancun can be very romantic. It gets a bad rap for being a party place because of Spring Break, but that's only for a few weeks in the spring, and even then there are several adults only AI resorts that don't allow kids/partiers. FI and I went to Cancun last year and it was very romantic and absolutely gorgeous.

If you're set on staying in the US on the east coast, I'd suggest Hilton Head Island, SC or in NC going to the outerbanks. If you move more up north you could go to Cape Cod, MA. But as I said in my last post, driving somewhere in the US and staying at a hotel, paying for all your meals, drinks, and activities can add up very quickly. HTH!
  • you guys are great! so you're right I've only known cancun to be a party place.Me and my FI don't drink or party so none of that appeals to us. Where would you recommened?
  • There are lots of other places in Mexico that could fit well within your budget. Check out Cozumel, Riviera Maya, Acapulco, or even Cancun. FI and I were in Cancun for a week last year and never saw one single partying college kid. It was a very relaxing and romantic vacation. We also took a sunset dinner cruise that was very romantic and lots of fun.

You could also check out the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Bahamas. They have tons of beautiful AI resorts that should fit within your budget. HTH!
