Romantic Honeymoon in Vegas ?

I think my FI and I have settled on a Vegas honeymoon.  Neither of us have ever been there and it just seems very "us".  With that said, we just got back from a week in Key West, FL.... although its beautiful and what I thought was a rather "adult" place to go with all the bars and clothing optional places... I was a bit put off by all the kids and babies everywhere.  We went on what was supposed to be a "romantic" sunset cruise with all you could drink and appetizers with a live band.... There were people that brought kids and some brought babies in strollers.  It just seemed... odd to me.  I love kids but there's nothing romantic about having them around.. screaming babies don't really get me in the mood for anything sexy if you get what I mean...

So... for anyone that has been to Vegas - is it full of kids as well or not really?  Also, I read that there are a few "adults only" hotels - one of them I really liked but the reviews were terrible... "Aria" was the name..  I looked at "Rumor" as well - but not a lot of reviews online.  Anyone have personal experience? :)  Thanks!

  • I haven't stayed at any of those hotels, but Vegas is kind of hit or miss with kids. You will see them walking around the strip and at restaurants, but Vegas is really an adult kind of town. If you are looking for a romantic hotel, I would stay at Paris or Bellagio. Both are in the heart of the strip and are very nice. Also, you can have a nice romantic dinner at the Eiffel Tower restaurant.

  • Well I went there as a teenager as well as an adult, so there's that. But I'm assuming you mean small kids. The last time H and I went we did see some families. Overall, it's more of an adult city, but I do think there are some places that cater more to kids. If you want to avoid them at all costs, the casinos are one place where they can not be, and I have seen the workers usher people along because if you're under 21, you aren't supposed to be standing around in the casinos.

I know from staying at the MGM, I saw a LOT more kids there than when we stayed at the Flamingo or Bellagio. If I recall, the MGM had a kids' pool. Or at least, I remember a lot of kids at the pool (it was a long time ago). Obviously, the clubs and bars wouldn't have kids. It just depends on where you go. When we went to see LOVE, there were some families there. If you went to Peep Show, there wouldn't be. I think if you went to more upscale, fancy restaurants you'd also miss the families.

I think overall you won't see as many kids as other vacation spots, but I don't think there's anywhere you can go to not see them at all.

  • The Aria got terrible reviews? That's a bit hard to believe for me, we've stayed there before and that hotel is very nice and we loved it. All our friends and families have loved staying at the Aria likewise.

Like PPs, Vegas is a hit/miss with kids. It really depends which hotel/area you are staying at. You won't really see any kids at the more expensive hotels like the Wynn, Bellagio, Venetian, Paris,Cosmopolitan, Vdara, etc. I've always found The Venetian as one of the most beautiful hotels therey, I've always loved it.
  • I go to Vegas A LOT...like I went 8 times this last year.  And I will say that although Vegas is more of an adult town, you will be surprised how many children there are.  It's quite obnoxious.  I'm not sure why parents think it's fun to bring their kids there but whatever...they do.  At night when all the adults are out doing adult things, there won't be as many kids, however, I was surprised to see that there are still parents out with their children at the weirdest hours.

I don't know of any adults only hotels in Vegas....however, there are some hotels that will have less than others.  I've never heard of Aria being an adults only hotel...I see kids in there all the time so I really don't think it is.  I think might just have a separate adults only pool.  I noticed the nicer, more upscale, (read: expensive) hotels have less kids.  There are hotels that will have adults only pool sections or pool parties that are strictly adults only (i.e Bare at the Mirage, where it is optional to go topless..so obviously not kid friendly).

As for Rumor, I've never stayed there but I do know it is a ways off the strip.  It's by the Hard Rock and it is not walkable to the Strip.  You would need to cab it.  I mean you could walk...but it's a long one.

  • Thanks everyone!!  Appreciate everyones input... Its not that I don't want to see ANY kids while I'm there - its more that I am hoping to see a lot less than were at what I thought would be too expensive and adult oriented for kids to be around in Key West.  It just really put me off.    The reviews for Aria are all over the place - but the bad ones are pretty scary regarding customer service and an uncaring staff.  I checked yelp.com and tripadviser - both seem about the same.  I guess misunderstood some of what I read - looking further they are not "adults only."  Think we need to do some more research... I think we definitely wanted a car - a chance to drive a little further out from Vegas I think...
  • I think the amount of kids in Vegas also has to do with the time of year.  If you go during the school year, especially during the week, you are alot less likely to see them.  Also, like the PP mentioned, some of the hotels are considered more kid-friendly (MGM, Mandalay Bay), so that can also impact the amount of kids you see.

Try to avoid school vacation times - that will cut down on hte number of kids you'll be around.  Also, as PPs have said, certain hotels tend to attract more kids than others.  I was there about a year ago, and the hotels that I thought had the most "adult" vibe were the Wynn and the Cosmopolitan.  The Bellagio is also gorgeous, although I think I saw a few more kids there (not as many as at, say, MGM though).  The Venetian is also absolutely gorgeous.

Finally, we stayed at the Rio when I was a teenager - it's pretty far off the main strip, but they run pretty frequent shuttles to their sister hotels for free for guests - and the Rio was very adult-oriented, although the atmosphere was more "Mardi Gras party" than "romantic and secluded."  The Rio's also an all-suite hotel, so you get a little more space for your money.

Also, I'm pretty sure you can't find adult-only hotels anywhere in the U.S. - something to do with age discrimination laws (although I'm not sure what, it's just something I vaguely remember reading a while back).

  • H and I just got back from a New Year's trip to Vegas and we stayed at Aria - I am SHOCKED that you read bad reviews.  It's easily the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in.
Amazing restaurants, amazing spa, gorgeous huge casino.

It depends what you're looking for, but Cosmopolitan is very, very crowded and cramped.  Aria is much bigger and more spread out.  My complaint with Bellagio is that it's a little shabby around the edges at this point, and the strip hotels are always PACKED with people just walking around the casinos, including tons of strollers and kids.  Aria (and the rest of CityCenter) are back from the strip enough that you don't get people just walking in, but definitely close enough to walk around.
