Wedding night hotel--splurge or be reasonable?

So you only get one wedding night, but when you arrive at 11pm or later and you're checking out by 5am the next morning to get to the airport for your honeymoon....do you spend a few hundred and stay somewhere really nice, or just stay at the local hampton inn? I really can't decide. It seems that you only get one wedding night and it should be nice...but how do I justify spending nearly $300 for a room I'll literally be in for less than 8 hours? Staying at a nice hotel comes with plenty of amenities...none of which I'll have the opportunity to take advantage of during my short stay. Advice please!

  • I would go with the one somewhere in between.  :)

  • We had a gorgeous corner suite with jacuzzi for the night of the wedding and the next night.  Jacuzzi never got used, and we barely spent any time in the room because of other running around and what not.  From my experience I would say just book at the Hampton Inn.  I would regret our room if we paid for it, but my aunt got it for free since she knew someone who worked there.

  • I would book somewhere in between.... save the super nice hotel for your honeymoon and be able to enjoy all the amenities, but definitely stay in a nice suite for your wedding night. Don't go crazy, but still nice.

  • I would stay in a mid-range hotel....maybe $150 at most.

  • Does your airport have a hotel? That is what I would do....
  • Agreed. We're staying at a Holiday Inn (in a suite, but nothing spectacular) the night of the wedding because that's where a lot of our guests will be. Save the dough for the HM!!!

  • I think we were in our room for about 4 hours total--and that was spent sleeping the night of our wedding.  Don't waste your money, I would do the Hampton Inn

  • 1- IMO you are a crazy lady to be leaving for your honeymoon SO early in the a.m. after your wedding!

2- we had a honeymoon suite booked at the hotel w/ our room block and ended up changing it last min to one of the normal rooms.  Was a savings of 50%, room was still great and we were barely there.

3- also, the suites might have things like late check out etc that make them more expensive, but since we got up the next a.m. to meet everyone for brunch (and youre leaving so early) those perks are just wasted money

  • We have a similar situation.  Wedding ends at 11:30 and we have to be up at 4:30 to get on the plane.  I understand that this sounds nuts, but is the only way we could get on the cruise we wanted :)

We chose to stay at our home and save the money for excursions on the cruise.  We weren't going to be able to enjoy the megabucks hotel room.

  • For such a short amount of time just stay somewhere basic.  A Hilton would be perfect.

  • For us it just all came down to budget.  We could afford a nice room so we booked one even though we were only in it for about 7 hours.  If you can easily afford a more luxurious room then do it.  If it would be hard on your budget and you need the money elsewhere then book something less expensive.

  • I suggest being reasonable and splurge once you're on the honeymoon.
