Brazil?

Hello,

I've posted on here a few times...all about different hm locations. We cannot seem to narrow down to one place!! We're getting married October 2nd and are planning on 7-10 days. We are looking for something relaxing and beautiful! Beaches, pools, cocktails, etc.  We would be interested in doing some sightseeing, but not as the main part of the trip.  We've both been to Mexico and Carribean a few times, so we're looking to go somewhere different and fun, but not crazy break the bank.

I'm currently interested in Brazil... I know there are some good beach areas there, but I never really hear about it for a hm destination.  Are the beaches nice? Do they have good resorts there? Any decent AIs?  Is early October too cold?

Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Brazil?

  • I'm also looking for something unique for my honeymoon as well. I have always wanted to go to Brazil too. So I was talking to my priest who is Brazillian and he said he hasn't been home to visit family in about 3 years. He says times aren't the best right now in Brazil there is alot of corruption and crime happening right now. Some kind of drug problems affiliated with Olympics coming there in a few years? I'm not 100% sure on all everything but he said he would recommend waiting a few years and then going there because its amazing and there alot of beautiful and unique things to see and do.

  • Thanks so much for your response! I've been doing some reasearch and do see a lot of warnings about high crime rates.  Hmmm...maybe Brazil will have to wait?

Where are you looking for your honeymoon?

  • Hi girls, I live in Chile and have been to Brazil several times.

As far as safety goes, yes, you need to take certain precautions when you're in Brazil. You don't go to the beach with your fancy camera, walk around with nice jewelry, walk around at night or go into "off-the-beaten-path" areas. But many South Americans tend to exaggerate the danger (this is true in Chile as well) because they don't want you to be unprepared. I personally wouldn't think twice about traveling to a popular beach spot in Brazil these days.

I don't know about AIs - I've never heard of anyone staying AI in Brazil, but that definitely doesn't mean they don't exist. There are plenty of different prices and styles of hotels, so I'd pick the area you want to go first and then look at hotels. The beaches are nice, and it's never too cold! I've been in July, which is the dead of winter, and it was like 80 degrees every day. Some commonly recommended beach areas include:

    - Rio de Janeiro. Lots of city stuff to do as well as nice beaches.
    - Buzios. About 2 hrs from Rio, more of a beach focus but still plenty happening as it's a popular spot.
    - Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande. About 2 hrs from Rio, Angra is on the coast and Ilha Grande is an island just off Angra. Also a popular tourist spot.
    - Salvador de Bahia. In the north, more of the Afro-Caribbean influence.
    - Florianopolis. Another common beach destination.
  • I am trying to do a Costa Roca trip. It has everything we are looking for plus more. But its rainy season in October so I'm nervous about trying do do this. I'm trying to ask some locals if its worth it to go then.

My fiance is leaning towards Hawaii but I'm trying to deviate from that ;)
