Maui Musts!

We just met with our TA, and we are set for Hawaii! We are going to be spending 7 days in Maui and 2 days in Oahu. We are spending the majority of our budget on our lodging (Ritz Carlton Kapalau). Because our excursion and dining out budget will be a bit tighter, i was wondering- what is NOT to miss Maui?!? What are the must dos and must sees and must eats?

Thanks :)

Re: Maui Musts!

  • We stayed at the Ritz also.  If you like sushi, go to Sansei which is right next door.  We loved it and ate there twice.
  • Mama's Fish House

  • I would say anytime you go to Hawaii, you should do a luau.  We did the Feast at Lele in Lahaina and absolutely loved it.  They have a much different set up than other luaus because it's not buffet style and they serve courses from Hawaii, New Zealand, Tahiti and Samoa.  Plus an open bar :)  You also get private seating so you aren't sitting at a huge picnic table with 100 other people.

  • I would have to say a must see/do is the Road to Hana... it is absolutely beautiful, it will take most of your day too so take snacks.
  • Do the north-west highway! Our wedding guests thought it was more exciting than the road to Hana. Plus, you can stop at the Olivine pools and see the blowhole.

My faves: Sansei, Roy's (eat), Kapalua beach & Honolua Bay (snorkel), Kahekili beach (north of black rock) for swimming, hike the Waihe'e Ridge Trail.
  • See reviews in my bio. If I had to choose, I would say the Luau (I went to Old Lahaina- and dinner is included). Mama's Fish House for a nice dinner, Road to Hana is free! Sunrise on the crater is free! And you can get snorkeling gear for rent in the town (at least we did in Lahaina) and do snorkeling on your own.
  • Road to Hana - don't stop keep going all the way
Eat at Kimo's in Lahania and Gazebo in Nipili
    Northwest road's
    Snorkle with Pacific Whale Foundation
Bike down Haleakala with Haleakala Bike Co.
    Black Rock
  • Def Haleakala at sunrise and then bike ride down.  It was amazing! also Snorkeling in Molakini (sp).  I was afraid at first, but it was soooo amazing!  We also had a fun ride out on the boat and then on the way back, went swimming with the sea turtles!

  • Ka'anapali Beach Hotel's Champagne Sunday Brunch was the best buffet I've ever been to!  Complete with a nice live Hawaiian band.

    And of course: Hana,
If you don't want to bike down Haleakala Summit, you can rent a car and drive it- we dropped it off at the airport, which was cheaper than taking a shuttle/cab.
Mama's Fish House is by the airport and a nice splurge.

Boss Frog's has cheap snorkel gear to rent.

Bought a boogie board at ABC store-cheaper then renting.  Also has reasonably priced souvenirs. Also, a good place to load up on snacks.
