All inclusive Honeymoon, what is a reasonable budget?

I am researching a place to go for our honeymoon.  I have noticed that the dominican republic is beautiful and seems to be the least expensive.  My question is what is a reasonable budget for a week, two people, at an all inclusive resort?  Any suggestions on where to go, where to look?  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Re: All inclusive Honeymoon, what is a reasonable budget?

  • After extensive research, we found that Riviera Maya, Mexico was the best bang for our buck (cheaper than DR).  Not sure if that has to do with the flight being cheaper since it is only 2.5 hours from us.  We got seven nights and airfare at the Valentin Imperial Maya for $2800.

I think your budget will depend on airfare, so I'm not sure how much you should budget from Seattle.  For us, if we had been able to spend 4,000, we could have picked almost any all inclusive we wanted in Mexico, DR, or Jamaica.  Our budget with airfare was 3,000 and there were still a LOT of options.

    Hope that helps.

  • I am from Dominican Republic and Punta Cana and Puerto Plata are absolutely beautiful.  Punta Cana is a bit more expensive than Puerto Plata.  The beaches are much nicer in Punta Cana, but Puerto Plata is not far behind.  I have been to all inclusive resorts in Puerto Plata various times.  Blue Bay for $550 a person.  Food, drinks, and entertainment were amazing.  I forgot the other resort but we spent $880 per person.  Melia and Dreams in Punta Cana can go to a bit over $1000 per person and you do get great food, service and drinks.

Jamaica - Gran Palladium was $1100 per person and it was AMAZING.

Although Mexico is more for your money, I'm a little bit concerned about the safety of Mexico.  Just read 12 tourists were raped by locals.

Yes, this did occur, but it occurred in Acapulco. Mexico has many destinations to offer and the most popular, the Riviera Maya/Cancun is on the East coast of Mexico and Acapulco is on the West. So, very far a part in distance and even culture. It's like saying you're afraid to go to New York because of something bad that happened in Los Angeles. That being said, your budget will first and foremost depend on what you can afford and what you are comfortable spending. I recommend determining what you can afford and then go on Expedia and type in your dates and destination and see what pops up. We can also offer some recommendations on here if you can give us a target cost. Since everyone is scattered around the world, each person spent a different amount though, mainly because of flights and time of year,

  • I think we can afford to spend around 3000, and honestly  we are just looking for something relaxing and nice.  We have never been on a vacation like this so Im sure most anything will seem nice to us.   Any reccomedations are really appreciated, Ive tried to research an its a little overwhelming lol.  we arent sure when we will be going, ideally  at the end of July though.  Thanks so much everyone.

  • I agree with Jells. Mexico is completely safe and you have nothing to worry about.

Try using this website AllInclusiveOutlet.com and you can search using your exact dates and your departure airport. It lets you search many locations and see what comes up in your price range. Then just double check the resorts on TripAdvisor.

I know at first it is a very confusing choice but I think with your budget of 3k you will be able to find a nice affordable resort in Mexico and you will be super pampered and it will be great!  Just remember how amazing laying on that beach will be. Good luck!
