Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa- My Review (long)

I know this hotel had came up on the board a couple of times and I just got back from our HM there from 9/27-10/2 so I thought I would write a review on it for anybody who was thinking about maybe staying there.

First off it is on the island of Maui approxamently a 40 minute drive from the OGG airport. We did the shuttle service (Maui Executive Shuttle) it cost 50 dollars, a taxi is 75-85 dollars. The concierge at the hotel will set up all the arrangments for you. The check in is very nice they are super friendly you get a voucher for a free bottle of champagne and they give you a realy nice photo album (very hawaiin). In the lobby the have African Penguins, multiple parrats, coi fish, and cool statues. They also have a small coffee bar area that has coffee, sandwiches, and juices during the day then it serves cocktails at night.
Then down stairs pool side they have the Umalu restraunt which is the casual one. It has a ver nice bar, outdoor tables, food is resonably prices (about $30-40 for 2 adults w/ 2 mixed drinks). They also have the brakfast buffet inside there and then you go outside to eat. The breakfast buffet was good with a large selection of everything you might want. breakfast was included in our room but the cost was 35 dollars (2 adults) if you were to pay for it.
The also have the Sonz at Swan Lake restraunt it is the more formal restraunt. We only went to dinner there once (average cost $150 for 2 adults no alcohol drinks, but we did use our voucher for the champagne). Very nice and great service. They also have a breakfast buffet, it was alittle far for us to walk just for breakfast.
We also went to the Luau there at the hotel and it was GREAT, we did the VIP seats (which i suggest for 10 more dollars), it was a 3.5 hour show, the whole show was wonderful and entertaining. We also did the jet ski rental that is located beach side of the hotel and that was really fun, and a good price. I do not recommend the dinner cruise the concierge suggest, it was not very nice and not a smooth ride like it says. Maybe try to book that on your own because I know the island does have nice ones.
The overall feel of the hotel was very nice. It had awesome views, huge pool (which never got crowded), wonderful wildlife around. The only SMALL downside was they are remodeling the inside of the rooms with new furniture so we could hear some drilling from them hanging wall stuff. Never past about 5 in the evening and didn't start until about 10 in the morning. I would definetly recommmend this hotel!!!

Feel free to ask questions if you want!

  • Thank you for the review!  We are going there on our honeymoon in June.  What kind of room did you get?  Ocean view?  Garden view?
  • Deluxe Partial Ocean View, it was very nice. We were in the middle tower (out of 3 towers) and our balcony was directly above the hotel entrance then to the left was the wonderful ocean view. Very nice king bed, huge flat screen tv, comfy pillows, good water pressure, you'll really enjoy it.

  • We stayed here and loved it!!  If you are staying here, I'd definitely recommend going to the Old Lahaina Luau instead of the Hyatt Luau.  It's about a 5 minute drive away.  I wasn't that excited to go to this, but it ended up being one of the most fun things we did on our honeymoon.  We watched a little of the Hyatt luau as we walked by one night, and weren't that impressed.  Otherwise, the Hyatt is fantastic and there's so much to do nearby!  Many of my friends have also stayed at this hotel, and everyone has nothing but great things to say.
  • Awesome!  Thank you!  I can't wait!
