but i also want to be able to leave the hotel or resort and go see some nice scenery, parks, waterfalls.

It will still be warm in New Orleans at that time of year.  Except for the waterfalls, it meets all of your requirements.  The pool at the Richelieu Hotel in the French Quarter is super quiet and relaxing, and you're within minutes of historic buildings, great food, museums and more. The Omni Royal Orleans has a fabulous rooftop pool, and the Bourbon Orleans pool is also nice.  We just got married there, and our parents were able to golf nearby.

And of course, there is no end to the history and ghost tours!
  • That sounds amazing!!!! I will definitely talk with my fiance about it! Thank you!!!!!

  • San Diego would also be a good choice. The weather is great in September and there are lots of outdoor opportunities. Balboa Park has several great museums and gardens to tour. There would also be plenty of golfing opportunities for him.

Here are some other places you could visit and/or see in San Diego:
USS Midway Museum Point Loma/Old Point Loma Lighthouse Cabrillo National Monument Mission Beach Old Town San Diego/Whaley House Torrey Pines State Reserve Seals in La Jolla Birch Aquarium Gaslamp Quarter Mission San Diego de Alcala Ocean Beach Hotel del Coronado
  • Hi Detroit Bride!

We were in California last September on our HM, and the weather was fabulous.  If you've never been, then I highly recommend it. LA is only about a 2 hr drive from San Diego.......we started in San Fran and drove down the coast on Hwy 1 (Pacific Coast Hwy) over a 10 day period in a rented convertible. It was amazing.

I highly recommend doing some research on www.tripadvisor.com. I used it to research everything, and the reviews for hotels and restaurants are written by actual people/guests.

It will also be nice in Washington DC in September. You like museums (they are all free), he likes to golf, and they have haunted tours of buildings in DC. If he wants to golf stay in the Virginia area. You won't need a car (actually, don't get one if you stay in DC, the hotels charge $25-$50 a night to garage your car) because the Metro Subway/train system gets you everywhere. From Detroit, the cheapest airfare is into Baltimore's airport (my son lives in DC, we all fly back and forth). From there you can get a train to Union Station, OR take a bus to the last stop on the green line (I think) then take the Metro to the nearest stop to your hotel.

We Detroit area residents are not used to subways/trains, but the Metro is easy, cheaper than having a car, and very safe. It's a bit intimidating sometimes, but I've been to DC maybe 8 times, and only felt intimidated the first time I went into one of the stations.

Charleston SC is also nice, historic, museums, I"m sure great golf. Not sure about haunted houses though.

Let me know if you want any info on any of this. Send me a Private Message below with your email or we can correspond via PM messages.

  • ive thought about washington. No to California, only because my fiance wants to go somewhere that neither of us have been so that it can be new to both of us and ive been there.

I was going to suggest SD as well. That's where FI and I are going for our June honeymoon, so we can save up for a big trip to Europe for the 1-year-anniversary.<div>Wherever you end up going have fun! </div>

<div>Would you consider New York? I don't know if you've been there before but it's beautiful. Or maybe if you don't want to be in a big city, Georgia is gorgeous as well, and great for relaxing. Definitely nice museums and amazing scenery there. Or there's always Orlando Florida! You could have fun in so many places. I've travelled to almost every US state, and I live in Los Angeles, so if you have questions I can help :) Oh, and of course tripadviser </div>

  • What about Key West? My sister has done several ghost tours down there. It's also very beautiful.

  • Minnesota I know about!!!  What questions do you have?

I have lived in Minnesota my entire life, PM me if you have any specific questions!!

Northern MN (Duluth, Two Harbors, Grand Marais - by Lake Superior) has beautiful hiking trails and also other fun things to do (lighthouse tours, Glensheen Mansion, etc.)!  My family loves it!!  Gooseberry Falls has multiple waterfalls, and beautiful scenery (the hiking trails aren't hard, very easy even for a little kid).  There are hotels nearby as well, and in Two Harbors there is an aquarium that has an otter show for the whole family!!!

There are 2 lighthouse tours that I love, the Two Harbors Lighthouse and Split Rock Lighthouse (in Duluth)!

Also, Glensheen Mansion is an old house that has 2 tours, I recommend the less expensive as the extra "attic" tour is only about an extra 5 or 10 minutes of the tour.  There were murders there and if you ask your tour guide (and the rest of the tour agrees) the will show you where they were done and give you minor details about the murders!!

There are many hotels in the Duluth/Two Harbors/Grand Marais area to stay in as well!!

Arizona is beautiful in September... still warm in the Phoenix area; cooler to the north.
From desert to mountain, and the Grand Canyon, of course.
