Turks & Caicos honeymoon- thoughts?

Thinking 6 nights in Turks & Caicos for honeymoon. Has anyone been? Any resort recommendations? I want to be quiet and secluded trying to avoid too many children at location if possible! Any insight will be appreciated- also honeymoon is in May!

Re: Turks & Caicos honeymoon- thoughts?

  • My sister stayed at Somerset on Grace Bay for her babymoon earlier this year.  She had the same requirements as you.  Our recommended it and she was really happy with it.  Hope that helps!
  • We HMed in Turks and Caicos and absolutely loved it!!!! If you're going in May, there shouldn't be too many kids. We went in July and only saw tons of kids at Beaches (avoid!!!). T&C is very quiet and has amazing food. We stayed at the Sands and really liked it, but we walked around and saw lots of other resorts, too, so let me know if you have any questions! :)

  • FI and I vacationed in Turks & Caicos in January (not our honeymoon).  We stayed at Ocean Club West, which is a condo resort (you have a full kitchen but also amenities like housekeeping, fresh towels, etc.)  We liked having a kitchen with full fridge, as we could make lazy breakfasts in the morning and we had plenty of room for wine, beer and snacks.  Eating breakfast and lunch in our condo saved us a ton of money (so we could splurge and go out to dinner at nice restaurants each night.)  There was a very nice grocery store just down the street (easy walk) and we stocked up on food and beverages for the week.

The resort did have some kids, but not a lot and was pretty quiet.  We never had any problems getting a good spot and chairs/umbrella on the beach.  As PP said, the food in TCI is amazing - - we liked CoCo Bistro and Bay Bistro (make a reservation for a table on the beach... super romantic and great food!)

Feel free to ask me any questions - - I'm happy to share more details.  I loved the island and we definitely will go back again!

  • I love Turks & Caicos.  H and I stayed at The Somerset on Grace Bay http://www.thesomerset.com/. It is an absolutely beautiful resort.  It is not an adult-only resort.  We saw about 6 teenagers, traveling with moms.  Other than that, no kids were around.

I suggest you have your travel agent give the resort a call and find out how many families with children have made reservations for the time you're considering.

Somerset on Grace Bay is awesome, very quiet and peaceful.  Turks & Caicos is absolutely fabulous -- most incredible sand in the Caribbean (just like baby powder).  Enjoy!
  • I've spent many a vacation at the Club Med in Turks and Caicos, but it's closing this October for a much-needed overhaul, and when it reopens it'll be a family resort. But pretty much any property in Providenciales on Grace Bay will have great beach access because the beach is public. Some of the resorts have activities available, but there are also local business that offer snorkling or scuba trips if you're interested in that. The little business district is much more robust than when I first started going there 6 or 8 years ago. Lots more restaurants and bars if you end up not staying at an all inclusive. There's a grocery store at the main intersection of the ocean road and the road from the airport, too.

One thing to consider as you look at resorts at turks is the airfare to get there -- Coming from the East Coast, it costs between $650 and $800 PER PERSON for airfare even though there are now lots of flights. It's a lot less expensive to get to Mexico, for example. But I love Turks. Love it.
  • Does anyone know anything about the Alexandra Resort or the Nikki Beach Reort?  Thinking about either one of those for our HM. Any insight would be a great help!
