Hawaii honeymoons

I'm sure this has been talked to death on here but since there are no related threads on the main page I thought I'd ask...

We want to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon! Any suggestions on where to go???

Re: Hawaii honeymoons

  • I think some parts of Hawaii are more touristy and family-friendly than others...we stayed on Waikiki/Oahu on a vacation and enjoyed it although it was very touristy and lots of different people and families.  Personally if I had gone there for my honeymoon I would have chosen a more secluded part of Hawaii.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • A friend of mine who is really outdoorsy went to Hawaii and they rented a condo on one of the smaller islands.  They love to hike and explore and they had a wonderful time.

Each island is SO different! I would contact a travel agent to get advice.  It's free and my FI used a bunch when he was planning our trip there.  I know it helped him immensely in figuring out where we should go.  Also, definitely purchase a travel book. There are great tips in there, too.

FYI-- we went to Maui, the Big Island and Kauai.  We had an amazing time :) In Maui we stayed at the Sheraton on Kaanapali Beach, on the Big Island we stayed at the Fairmont Orchid and in Kauai we stayed at the Grand Hyatt. There are also TONS of posts on this board about Hawaii, so read through those too!  Happy Planning :)

  • Like PPs have said, each island is so different. We wanted a mix of relaxation and nightlife/activities, so we went to Oahu. FWIW, all of Oahu is NOT toursity and crowded. That is the Waikiki area. We did stay in Waikiki and loved it, but the North Shore is completely opposite of that. It is more laid-back, not busy, not commercialized, and it has absolutely gorgeous beaches! There is a resort (Turtle Bay) up on the North Shore that is amazing and not busy or crowded-feeling.

To help us pick an island, I went to Hawaii's official tourism website and looked around at each of the 4 most popular islands. They have sample itineraries, a description of each, and you can search for hotels/restaurants/activities, etc. I'd suggest doing that. And you can always hit up more than one island on a trip.

I have a review of our trip to Oahu in my married bio.

  • We are going to the big island and to Maui in July. My fiance says that he really want to show me Maui and he has been there before. And I have a freind who lives in Honolulu that we are going to see.
