Scuba in central or S. America?

Anyone done scuba in these parts? I have the chance to use FI's family's time share anywhere we can find dates that work and we're planning on getting scuba certified in town soon. I've read about several spots but would love personal recommendations.

    We just went diving in Roatan, Honduras in September and it was amazing!  Some of the best diving I've ever done.  There are TONS of dive shops there too, so you don't need to worry about booking anything in advance, just make sure they are PADI or NAUI certified and everything is pretty much the same.
