Staycation Honeymoon followed by DR Honeymoon...

So right now this is our plan, after our wedding in June 2011, go away somewhere not too far from our Upstate NY home.  And save up more money and go away maybe around the new year for our 'real' honeymoon to the Dominican Republic. I'm wishy washy on this one, while I'd love to go to DR right after the wedding I'm realizing its not possible.  Any good local ideas other than a week away at the shore?

I don't know how local you're talking about (same state, same country etc) but maybe Disney or maybe spend a week in NYC at a nice hotel.

maybe go a couple hours away to a bed & breakfest type of place in the mountains, then have your beach HM in DR

Hey! I am in a similar boat as you. We're in CT and having a June wedding.  Our budget is limited, so we've been looking at the northeast (and more recently wandering farther west).  We like to hike a bit, so we have thought about the White Mountains of NH, Acadia National Park in Maine, and then Montreal for more of a city-based getaway.  We haven't made any decisions and I am not sweating the HM plans as of yet.  I typically plan vacations 2-3 months out, so I hope to have a solid plan by March or so.

I have a family friend who owns a condo farther down south on the Jersey Shore...and no please don't think of the MTV show! LOL...Its a quiet beach town where we could really relax and they wouldn't charge us to stay there for the week. I'd have to check with them first of course.  I like the B&B idea, on my drive in to work I was thinking Niagara Falls cause I've never been.  And has much as I love my hubby to be, he's not coming up with any other options.  I'll just have to look around and present the ideas to him.

Hubby to be has never been to Disney but that's still out of our price range and NYC is more of a day trip.  I used to work in the city so its 'magic' is lost on me...though I do miss it!

I didn't think about Montreal or going North with the HM...I'll have to investigate more.

Also, Cape Cod isn't too far of a drive and affordable in June.
