Name Change & Honeymoon Flights...

I know this is probably something very simple to answer, but I want to make sure I go about this the right way. My FI and I will be booking our honeymoon soon, and we're leaving about a week after our wedding. What are you supposed to do as far as booking tickets? Do you book with your maiden name, and then just bring along your marriage certificate and let the airlines know? I know the security will be tight, not only because it always is, but because we are also leaving the country. I just want it to go smoothly, and didn't know how it was handled best. I know the airport guards probably run into this a lot, but I just want to be sure! Thanks!

Book in maiden. Simple. You can't change your last name to your husbands until you get the marriage license back from the court house. So, technically your still miss xyz not mrs xyz in the eyes of the law...and the TSA lol.

Definitely book your flights in your maiden name.  Same for rental cars if you're going to drive.  I don't see why you can't book any hotel rooms in your married name (maybe bring your marriage certificate just in case). 

It's my understanding that you can't make any changes to your passport or driver's license until you go through Social Security and that can take a while.  Definitely get mulitple copies of your marriage license to make the whole process easier so you don't have to go back down to the courthouse to pick up additional copies.

Yep, what PP said.  Just because you are legally married doesn't mean your name is legally changed.

I know that just because I'm married my name doesn't change out of the blue. It was just a question. Thanks to you ladies who answered it.

you do NOT have to change with social security before you change your passport.

you will need a minimum of 4 weeks after the wedding to get your official marriage cert and need time to send passport for updating. you will not have that time. you need to book in maiden name and then change it when you get home. even if you did get the marraige cert back in time it is NOT a valid proof of name change for TSA and air travel.

book ALL in maiden name-any hotels, car rentals, flights etc...
