Relaxing Honeymoon Help!

I previously posted on this board asking for advice on Paris honeymoons, and everyone was really helpful.  But...after discussing it with my fiance, I've learned he wants to go on a more "relaxing" honeymoon instead.  (Which I completely support since he works 80-90 hours per week, and we'll probably both be a little tired after the wedding).  I'm more of a warm weather than a cold weather person, so I was thinking about maybe something in the Caribbean? I've never been there before, so I have no idea what specific islands to check out or anything.   I'm definitely open to other suggestions, too.  My fiance basically wants somewhere he can sit around and not feel pressure to do anything.  I like new adventures when I travel, though, so I would like someplace we would have the option of doing some fun activities (scuba diving, boating, ziplining, etc).  We love good food.  Also, at the risk of sounding bridezilla-esque, I want to honeymoon in a place where they make the honeymooners feel special.  I'm a firm believer the little touches can make or break a vacation.  Does anyone have any suggestions of places I should check out?  We'll be going in early September and most likely flying out of NYC if that helps.  Thanks!!

Re: Relaxing Honeymoon Help!

  • What is your budget? It sounds like maybe a nice all inclusive resort is an option, as everything will be right at the resort and taken care of, but you always have the option of leaving if you'd like. Budget will dictate a lot, though.

  • I would like to keep it under $3000.
  • Cancun Mexico sounds right up your alley.  I recommend the Sun Palace.  It's an adult only AI.
  • I would say Mexico as well. That would be perfect with your budget. I think Playa Del Carmen would be a little more relaxing then Cancun though. And the nice part is there is so much to do in that area that you can be as busy or as relaxed as you want.

Check out TripAdvisor and AlllInclusiveoutlet.com to compare resorts. I like that they have a way to choose what type of resort you want and what extras tehy have.

  • Good ideas!  Thank you!!
  • Costa Rica might be a really good option also.  They have direct flight from NYC (they are pretty reasonable if you buy in advance).  You can go to the west coast of Costa RIca, and stay on the beach, and also do a fuw fun adventure things like ziplining, white water rafting, etc.  It is a beautiful country and reasonably priced.  I went there last year and LOVED it
  • i'm going to suggest  one of the french caribbean islands then so you get a bit of the french feel-like st martin-half is french.
imo it would be tough to be treated special for your HM if you go to a huge resort where a lot of the guests are HMers (AIs in cancun and riviera maya). i think, if you're looking for special try a non-ai boutique place.
but i agree wtih dem-costa rica is fabulous. lots of smaller hotels and resorts, direct flights (we flew into san jose and stayed ont he west coast) and took a few day trips. our trip there was mainly to relax and we did but we also did some hot springs, hiking etc.. excellent choice.

  • I will also second alithebride's recommendation for St Martin/St. Maarten since you said you love good food. We are actually headed there later this month for ten days for our honeymoon. With your budget it might be a little tough but you could save some money by renting a condo instead of staying at a resort.

The other suggestions for the Riveria Maya, Mexico (Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, etc) are also good as well and you should easily be able to find something within your budget.
