July 2012 Weddings

Should I give my vendors a heads up now?

Because right now, we have don't have a final answer for them.

We can cancel our venue (includes the caterer) 120 days prior with a full refund.  That would make the date March 16.  We'll say March 12 to be safe.  Anything after that the contract says "right to reserve all or a portion of the rental fee" which was $1250.

Not a big whoop if we feel we need another month to decide.  We must make up our minds no later than April 12 in case we continue on and then people get plane tickets.

The officiant has no contract, we were to pay him the day of the wedding.  The photographer's contract says we can cancel 2 months prior with a written letter.

Should I give my venue a head's up now?  Just say what we are facing right now?  The last thing I want is someone pressuring me with emails, "What are you going to do?  I have a client that would like your date!"

Would you give the officiant and photographer a heads up, or wait until after we've cancelled the venue already?

  • I would wait until you guys make your final decision before contacting any vendors... just my opinion!

I agree no need to say anything in case you decide to go along with the wedding :)

  • My friend (who plays cello for many San Fran weddings) thought I should at least tell the venue what we're dealing with.

I guess it's only 19 days away to our first deadline.

We'll have a trip home to my family in between there to gauge things more.  I know people are sick and having (going to have) babies, but I wish someone in my family would ask me how we're doing!
  • I would also at least tell the venue. Once you know for sure, then you have a window to let the other vendors know. Best of luck!

  • I would wait until you have seen your family in your upcoming visit.  You still have time to cancel and get back a full refund after that.  You are in a rough spot Gina, keeping you in my thoughts as you go through the next several weeks.
  • I would wait and tell them after you go home.  I agree the last thing you need is constant emails asking if you've made a decision! I hope you get this all sorted out shortly and everything turns out as well as it can.

  • I don't know, it's not like they can do anything with that information right now. They can't make appointments with new clients, until you really cancel. So I'd wait until after your visit home.
