I am getting married at the end of next July and we are pretty set on Key west for our honeymoon. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to stay? Hotel, resort, rent a place? And if anyone has any attractions or must-do's please give us any tipes or advice! Thanks!!!!

  • H and I went to Key West for our HM in July 2011.  We loved it.

We stayed at Southernmost on the Beach.  Great hotel with a small private beach and on-site restaurant.  Loved our room (we booked one they recently updated).  Also on the quieter end of Duvall which was nice.

I would recommend renting a Vespa or scooter for your time down there.  H and I didn't so we walked A LOT!  And drinving an actual car would just be a dumb thing to do.

As for activities, H and I didn't plan anything before we went.  We mainly just walked around and took in the sites.  We went to Mallory Sq to see the sunset, took a sunset cruise with Fury, snorkled and dolphin wathched again with Fury, hit up some local bars and restaurants and just relaxed.

  • Though not on honeymoon, I've been to Key West a couple of times. Here are my rec's:

    Places to say:
The Southernmost House - expensive, but the turret suite is ah-mazing and top notch honeymoon quality.
Speakeasy Inn - adorable B&B  - fair pricing and in the middle of everything

    To do & Not Do:
DO - rent a scooter if you can. Way better than walking all over and I enjoyed travelling the island and all the little streets and neighborhoods
DO NOT - stay in a resort. It takes away from the whole concept of Key west, which is laid back and informal
DO - Eat at A&B - its right on the water and their Lobster Bisque is to die for!
DO NOT - carry your phone or watch. I love leaving my technology in the room and just "go with the flow".
DO - feel free to have a drink at 10am - It's Key West!
DO - Visit Mallory Square and watch the sunset. If you happen to stay at the southernmost house in a room that gets the sunrise view, its amazing to see the sun rise and also set on the horizon!

  • Thank you so much ladies! all the info was super helpful!!!!! Def going to look into the southernmost house.
  • I go to Key West a few times a year and the #1 thing I can recommend doing is the 2 hour, 26 mile jetski tour that takes you around the entire key.  It is a great value through Fury (I believe it is $150 for 2 people) and if you do the last tour of the day at 6pm it is an amazing way to see the sunset over Sunset Key and usually some dolphins too!

As for places to stay, Southernmost on the Beach is convenient, as is the Pier House and Casa Marina and The Reach.  The Sheraton Suites' rooms are spacious and right across from Smathers Beach.  Though not the most central location, they do have a shuttle that drops you off in Mallory Square.  The shuttle runs every half hour and is complimentary.
