Motion Sickness - Seabands

Does anyone have any experience with Seabands, or something similar that uses acupressure to prevent sea sickness?  We are doing our first cruise, and I tend to get mild sea sickness.  We're also on a smaller ship, so I'm not sure if I will get affected or not, but I'd like to prevent it if possible.  Do the bands work??  Thanks ladies!!

Re: Motion Sickness - Seabands

  • ginger gum may work well for you. if you're worried id bring a few things to see what is the least you need. bands, gum and dramamine or bonine.

  • Seabands work for me and I have terrible motion sickness. I haven't tried them on a cruise but I used them on a small ferry, which was pretty rocky, and they worked like a charm! I also use them on small, windy, country roads in northern Michigan and again, they work like a charm! :-) Good luck! And, please, post after your honeymoon what -- and what didn't -- help with your cruise! Me and my fiance were considering a cruise but were worried I'd have a horrible time.

  • I have motion sickness, as well as seasickness a lot on boats, but when we went on our cruise last year I didn't feel anything.  I bought dramamine but didn't even open the bottle.
  • Thanks for the advice.  I'm really not wanting to take drug related things if I can avoid it, so I'm hoping to look into the seabands.  I never puke, I just get a little blah, dizzy/headachy and queasy stomach.  I can't imagine that would last 2 weeks!!

  • I get seasick too on smaller boats, but it doesn't bother me on cruises at all.
  • I always get motion sickness, even from being in the car for too long! Its horrible! I have been on at least 8 cruises and while it all depends on what ocean you are sailing through, as some are better than others, I was sick on nearly all of them. The first and second day is always an adjustment period for me. I dont like taking medicine, but I also dont like being sick! I have tried the bands, ginger pills (you can usually get them from a health food store), ginger gum, and I also got the patch and wore it behind my ear. They all seemed to work for me! It doesnt hurt to have a backup plan in case the bands dont work for you. Just make sure they are placed in the right place and you arent just placing them on your wrist, otherwise that defeats the whole purpose! I hope it works and you enjoy your time!
  • I used the bands and also took a tar pill each morning.  You can get them from nutrition stores -- they are just compressed tar (sounds gross, I know) and they work amazingly to settle your stomach.  Any other pills would knock me out.

A doctor we met on a cruise recommended them to me when nothing would quell my motion sickness and now I use them all the time.

Ginger (pills, gum, or chews) works for me.

</div><div>I get horrible motion sickness too the same way you do! I went on a cruise and tried dramamine pills and they did NOT work. They just knocked me out. Luckily, a kind fellow cruiser offered me one of the patches(they last 3 days) and it worked like a charm! No drowsiness at all!
