Cruise/Sandals? when to take our Honeymoon...

Ok, so my fiance' and I are having a hard time trying to figure out our honeymoon. First of all we are trying to decide when we want to take our honeymoon: we don't know if we should take it right after we get married this summer or if we should wait until next Dec after we graduate from college. That is our first issue.. do we go in July or do we go in December?

Our second issue is whether to do a cruise honeymoon where we will go to a number of different ports and go on some exersions or do we go to a Sandal's resort? I like the idea of everything being all inclusive for the Sandal's option because some of the things we would like to do like snorkle and water activites like that are included in the packages, but I am also a little nervous that those packages are too good to be true.

We need to figure this out if we are going to take our honeymoon in July after we get married, so any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance girls! Or if you have any other ideas those would be greatly appreciated too!

Re: Cruise/Sandals? when to take our Honeymoon...

  • I vote for taking it in July right after the wedding. You'll want the time away from everything after all the stress of the wedding to just relax with your new DH instead of just going back to every day life after the wedding.

If you have a choice I'd say go right away. If money or job/school situations hinder you from going right away then wait, but if nothing's getting in the way such as final exams or a tight budget go for it right away! Maybe give yourselves a few days to recharge after the wedding and then take off somewhere just the two of you to be alone and enjoy each other. 5 months is a long time to wait to go on a HM.
  • Oh and the excursion options are available whether you're on a cruise or staying at a resort. Snorkeling, parasailing, jet skiing, etc.. are always available either through your ship if on a cruise or through the hotel or outside vendors if you're staying at a resort. If you're looking to see a bunch of places and experience different things then take the cruise, but if you're really just looking to relax and do some excursions, I would say to stay at a resort because you can still book excursions when staying at a resort. In fact, FI and I have found that we have a lot more options when choosing excursions when staying at a resort rather than a cruise because you have more time. Cruises are typically only in port for a certain amount of time. Excursions such as dinner cruises, party cruises, and stuff of that nature are only available at night and most of the time the ship has already left port and you're back on board getting ready to go to dinner. HTH!

Either way, you and your new DH will have an amazing time! You can't go wrong with a cruise or an AI resort!
  • I would go as soon as you are married, life can get in the way and so many people push other things in front of taking a honeymoon...it is my favorite part of the planning right now!
  • We are in the same situation (wedding is July 3) and decided to go right away. We also decided to take a cruise because we liked the thought of being somewhere different every day (but we are very active and wanted a little adventure!)

  • I think you should take it in July! It will feel great to unwind and get some private time together after all of the wedding madness =)

I decided to go to Sandals because my FI and I are very laid-back people and want to be able to kick up our heels on the beach! I steered away from going on a cruise because I would feel obligated to get off at every stop and see the sites, etc, and the time crunch of having to be back on the ship in x hours would really ruin the fun for me. We will go on a couple of extra excursions from our resort, ziplining or something similar.
  • I think you should go on your honeymoon right away. DH and I talked about waiting a couple of weeks after the wedding (for work reasons), but in the end decided that it would be a complete bummer to go back to work the Monday after the wedding. There's just no experience like leaving for the honeymoon the next day. We went on a cruise and loved it. We liked getting to visit different places (Key West, Cayman Islands, and Jamaica).
  • I vote July afte the wedding.  I think sandals or a cruise would be a lot of fun!  That is a really hard decision
  • Thank you girls so much for all of your advice! I knew I would be able to find some good tips and advice here!! We have decided to take our Honeymoon in December because of everything going on with school, but are going to try and do a mini 3 day "honeymoon" right after the wedding that won't interfere too much with school. Thanks girls!!!!
