Hawaiian Honeymoon

Hey Ladies!!

My FI and I will be going to Hawaii for our honeymoon.  I have never been and would love to hear which island (s) we should travel to and which hotels are great, but reasonably priced.  What activities should we do and what should we see?

Thank you :)

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon

  • Each island is different, but wonderful.  What type of things are you hoping to do on your HM?  Once you decide the type of HM you want to have, it will be easier to select the island that best matches your plans.

I've been to Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, and will be going to Kauai in less than two months, so if you have questions about any of those islands, I'd be happy to help.

  • We chose Maui because we felt like it had the best mix of beauty and romance, but still with things to do and see.  We did a dinner cruise, a luau, the Road to Hana and saw the sunrise at Haleakala.   (But my favorite thing was probably our couple's massage which you can do anywhere!)  The rest of our time was spent at the pool and beach.
  • Each island is so different! It may be helpful to call local travel agents and have them go over the different islands and options for you.  That's what FI did when he planned our trip to Hawaii.  We didn't end up booking through a travel agent because expedia beat all of the agents' prices, but they are really helpful and their advice is free.  When we went to Hawaii, we stayed in Maui, the Big Island and Kauai.  They were all beatiful in their own way.  As PP mentioned, in Maui we did the Road to Hana, and also did a sunset cruise and luau.  On the Big Island we went to Volcanoes National Park, and in Kauai we took a boat tour around the Napali Coast which was amazing.  Maui has more nightlife than the Big Island and Kauai, but Hawaii overall I found to be pretty quiet (everything is closed by 11 at night).  HTH!

Thanks ladies! It seems like Maui is going to be the right fit for us.  Where have you stayed on Maui and would you recommend it?
  • We stayed in the Lahaina/Ka'anapali area of Maui and really enjoyed it, there was a lot to do, lots of restaurants & shopping and great beaches.  I'd definitely recommend it.

We stayed at the Sheraton near Black Rock (kaanapali).   We loved that area.  There's a lot of hotels there so you can take your pick.  It is right next to a great beach with lots of turtles.  It is also near a lot of great restaurants and shops.

Some things we did in Maui-
              The Old Laihana Luau
Road to Hana - with an awesome black sand beach :)
               The aquarium
               surfing lessons
               Makena Beach

I would also recommend going to the Big Island.  It was less touristy then Maui.
We went to Volcano National Park, a swim with dolphins, and Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park.
