Honeymoon Destination - June 2012

My fiance and I are preparing to book our honeymoon (Our Wedding is June 16, 2012 so we're hoping to leave sometime in the near future following the actual wedding).  Any location suggestions that are under $5k? We were thinking St Lucia, Maya Riviera, Bermuda, or somewhere in Europe (like Italy/Croatia/etc). Any suggestions?!?! or Recommendations!?  We'll be flying out of NY/CT.

  • June 16th is our wedding date as well!

We looked into HM options for months and months AND MONTHS and finally decided to leave Monday night after the wedding for Thailand. The flight was expensive but the accomodations were super affordable.

For under 5k you might be able to do Europe if you are willing to compromise with the hotel star rating/ length of stay. We wanted to stay at least 10 nights considering the flights  take up such a big chunk of the day. St. Lucia is very expensive too but you might be able to make it work depending on the number of nights you stay and the hotel you choose.

Aruba is a nice relaxing place, Jamaica and Riviera Maya are relaxing and adventurous. Costa Rica is also adventurous.

Bermuda is very small (we travelled all the way accross the island and back on a scooter in 4 hours). It's a nice place to relax but too small for me (I need a variety of activities).

I did alot of research for ALOT of places during this time so let me know what your FI and you are looking to do and maybe I can offer more information.

  • I went to Bermuda 2 years ago and absolutely loved it. I wanted to go back for my honeymoon, but my fi wanted to go somewhere neither of us had been before.

We're going to St Lucia for 2 weeks in May 2012 - it's more expensive than some of the other islands, but you can definitely do it for under 5k. It looks like flights out of JFK (we're leaving Memorial Day) are around $600 round trip pp, hotels range from around $125 a night to $500+ a night. June is the off season for St Lucia, so you can get some really great deals. I recommend Tripadvisor for finding a hotel, that's what we always use.

  • Bermuda is gorgeous.  We married there :-)  (pics in my bio, link in siggy!)

Bermuda is doable for under 5K, but it will depend on how long you stay and how you travel there (cruising is reallllly affordable option).
  • We are going to Aruba for our HM.  We are getting married on a Friday night in July we leave the following monday.

  • Yay I'm June 16th as well!

Right now we are between St. Lucia and Antigua. We are leaning toward Antigua.  Do you want a nice and relaxing HM or something a bit more adventurous?

  • We went to St. Lucia (Sandals La Toc) a few years back and LOVED it.  We stayed on the sunset bluffs and had the butler service.  It is very romantic and private.
Our friends just went to La Toc and then over to Ladera for their honeymoon.  It was a little more than your price range- based on their room choices, but could probably be an option for you as well.  They were really hesitant about an all inclusive, but ended up loving Sandals as much as Ladera.  (But the view/no 4th wall is definitely awesome.)
We have a great travel agent that helped us with St. Lucia and all our trips since then-- and our friends honeymoon.  If you want her info, just let me know!
  • I'm getting married on June 16th, too!! We've been looking into different options and right now we like the idea of a cruise. We'd leave out of Florida and possibly hit Jamaica, Haiti, Cozumel and Grand Cayman. It would be pretty affordable compared to other destinations and it would be a nice variety. Anyone have recommendations on cruise lines to sail with?

    <div>Definitely go to <a href="http://www.cruisecritic.com.This" rel="nofollow">www.cruisecritic.com.This</a> website is very helpful!</div><div>
</div><div>The cruiseline you choose depends on what you want. Do you want something quieter and more romantic or do you want alot of action and fun? Some cruises are more family oriented so there are more kids. These kinds of cruises usually have kid pool areas and things for them to do but they'll still end up on the "adult side". I personally don't mind the kids but I know some people do and want a place that is nice and quiet. </div><div>
</div><div>Cruise critic can help you find that. We originally thought we were going on a cruise and I was glued to that website. Royal Caribbean seems to be a fun and popular one. </div>

  • Another June 16 bride here :)  We're flying out of Boston directly to Bermuda.  Same question as PP, are you looking to relax or have an adventure?  FI and I want to relax on their beautiful beaches and enjoy some fine cuisine.

  • What about hurricanes? Isn't hurricane season like May-November?

  • We're heading to Belize (San Pedro) in May... We're the adventurous-type , so we're looking forward to scuba diving, exploring Mayan ruins, cave tubing, and more... Plus, total flight time is only about 5 hours. Originally, we were leaning towards Australia, but that would have been way too expensive. Good luck!
  • Are you against one in the US like Hawaii? You could definitely do that in budget. We're staying on Waikiki beach for a week but there are other places you could go
  • Thanks so much!!! We've narrowed it down to St Lucia or Antigua...any recommendations?

  • Wow June 16th and the same honeymoon locations! TOO FUNNY!!! I like that St Lucia is more different with the mountains and volcanos and things...but I heard the beaches on Antigua are better....
