Calligraphy Help!

Our Invitations just came in and we are having a debate in my house about how to address them.

Calligraphy or have them printed on a computer. Obviously the calligraphy is more expensive by about $100 or so dollars (no inner envelope which saves some money) - but printing them would be take hours and lots of frustration I'm sure. I also like the look of handwritten wedding invitations.

Someone on here recommended Michelle Dowling and I am meeting with her tomorrow morning so I would like to have a better idea of what we are doing by then.

Thoughts? What did you guys do?

We used Michelle Dowling and the envelopes were absolutely beautiful!  Her prices were very reasonable and we had inner and outer envelopes.

Oh and she even proofread everything for us and found a mistake and contacted us to ask about it!

  • I used Rachel Carl Co. She lives in TX so you have to send them to her but she did a great job and was one of the most reasonable prices I found.

We used her handwriting type - which was cheaper than actual calligrpahy. Ours looked similar to these, although we didn't put the Mr. and Mrs. like that.

  • I also used Rachel Carl! She was so amazing to work with and the final result was stunning. We had navy blue envelopes and she used white ink and it was beautiful.

  • I used Dani Writes  http://daniwritescalligraphy.wordpress.com/ she was so responsive, and helpful and didn't even charge us for the two or three envelopes I had to have her re-address. For us it was worth EVERY penny to not have to deal with the headache/hassle of printing.  We also had navy blue  and she used silver that almost looks white!

I actually have no idea what style we used.  My mom was the one who handled it.  I have a picture of the inner envelopes but not the outer (they were just as nice!).  We wanted something very simple.  She used navy ink to match our invitations.

  • Well, I did the printing.  It did take a long time (I found a shortcut) and sometimes it didn't line up perfectly with the printer.  My wedding was no frills, simple destination ceremony and family celebration a week later, so I could get away with it.  Honestly, I did worry it looked too much like "junk email" since it was done on the computer, so use a calligrapher!

  • I just found this great tutorial today on pinterest on how to print the envelopes in a light font, but then trace over it yourself in a calligraphy pen. The samples looked great... not sure how good mine would come out but I'm going to try it when my invitations arrive. Go to my pinterest to find it
