Anyone using Bare Escentuals for makeup?

I booked an appointment with Bare Escentuals in West Hartford (West Farms mall) to have them do my makeup before my engagement photos (I am using Dana Bartone for my wedding but she isn't available to do my makeup on the day of my e-pics...I called on too short notice!) So I figured I would try Bare Escentuals because I'm going for a very natural look in my e-pics. Has anyone used them?

TIA!

I use Bare Escentuals all the time but I read something about the minerals reflecting light (rather than absorbing it) and how it might not come out well in pictures.  But, for my epics, I had an AWFUL makeup trial (with some random person at a spa, not Dana) and so I redid it in a commuter parking lot with my own makeup (Bare Escentuals) and my pics came out fine.

I've heard of a lot of girls goin to the MAC counter too.

    Good luck!!

I've heard bad things about Bare Escentuals for pictures also.... same thing as Vanessa said, it reflects light strangely in pictures AND it doesn't give the appropriate coverage.  I was dead set on using it the morning of my wedding.  We had two ceremonies and Dana wasn't coming to do my makeup until before the second one. Every single makeup person that I asked about it in Sephora, other stores and my friend that's a makeup artist all advised me against it.   I ended up having the friend that's a makeup artist do my makeup.

If you're looking for an inexpensive alternative, I know of a makeup artist that is SUPER reasonable.  She's based in New Milford but will travel.  She actually has a makeup trial today with another CT knottie.  She does airbrush too.  I want to say she's in the $30-$40 range for a trial, but don't quote me on that. lol!  She's been in the makeup industry for quite a few years now, but she charges really reasonable rates because it's not a full time gig for her, and she just loves doing makeup.  I can give you her info if you'd like.

I actually did the same exact thing for my e-pics. I was a little weary because of everything I had heard about the "ghost-like" light reflection but our pictures came out just fine.

I use Bare Escentuals every day - love the lightness of the makeup, but I am fairly shiny all the time.  Luckily, it seems as though our photographer touched up our e-pics a bit...thankfully removing the shine.  But all of my makeup in our pics is Bare Escentauls - except for the mascara and lip balm.  GL!

Hmm, now I am second guessing the Bare Minerals thing. I love the makeup, but if it doesn't photograph well, then maybe I will go with MAC instead. The only thing about MAC is that it intimidates me...lol. It seems to be much more "bold" than Bare Minerals....but I'm sure they could do a natural look if I ask them to. I have seen some very edgy stuff from MAC, though

akulaji - thank you for the offer but I am going to be at the West Farms mall on that day anyways, so I figured I would just get my makeup done somewhere in the mall. I appreciate the offer very much!

I actually contemplated this as well.  My everyday makeup is from B.E. and I love it!  My only problem is that my eyeliner smudges hardcore.  As in, I work outside and in the last few weeks have had quite a few people ask me if I have a black eye.  Anyways, my next question is, do you tell them that you want your makeup done for e-pics or do you just go in there pretending like you are looking into buying it?

I am doing my e-pics soon too and was questioning whether to use my normal Bare Escentals.  I have heard that it makes you look ghost-like with a white sheen.  Decisions decisions...

I'm the girl that akulaji is talking about that had a trial today!  Julie did my make up and it came out great!  She airbrushed the foundation on and then did some really cool smoky eyed looks.  She also mentioned you should stay away from Bare Minerals type make up when having photos done because it contains SPF and that's what reflects the light in pics.  So don't even put on a moisterizer with SPF in it on your wedding day.  Definitely get in touch with her, she's great, and affordable! here's a pic of the tria.  Don't mind the dorky look, it's hard to take pics of yourself!l

I ended up buying a Bobbi Brown foundation that my makeup artist friend recommended to me and it was FABULOUS.  I was a die hard Bare Minerals girl before that because I absolutely detest the feel of foundation.  I ended up loving the foundation.  It actually felt like a mineral powder foundation going on even though it was liquid... had a matte finish.  If you feel like MAC is a bit too much for you, you might consider going to the Bobbi Brown counter if they have one in that mall.  I've fallen in love with their products.</div>

Yay!!! I love the smoky eyes!  Julie has taught me how to do smoky eyes several times, but it ALWAYS looks better when she does it! lol!  So glad you liked her!  I think she's amazing.</div>

<div>definitely go with MAC!  A girl at the MAC counter in the Nordstrom at Westfarms did my wedding makeup and i loved it.  (her name was Corrie).  i know a lot of people think that MAC only makes bold colors and you'll end up with crazy makeup, but they actually have a lot of good neutrals, too.  and actually...a lot of professional wedding makeup artists use MAC makeup.  Just tell them you want something natural, i'm sure they'll be happy to tone it down!</div>
