Courthouse wedding?

Hi all --

My fiance and I want to have a relative perform our wedding ceremony, so we want to get the actual marriage made official by an approved person before the wedding. We thought we'd just go down to the courthouse with two close friends who won't be able to make the wedding and they would marry us and make the license official.  But now I'm starting to do research about it, and it seems like CT might not do these kinds of wedding anymore?

Anyone have experience with this? Thanks so much!

    Hi there:
I don't know if they do it in other places, but there are Justices of the Peaces in the Stamford Government Center who will marry you in the building. If you live anywhere near the Stamford/Norwalk area, I'd be happy to marry you at a town hall.

I'm a Justice of the Peace but I just do it for fun. Don't worry, I'm not a JP trying to "drum" up business on the boards :). I'm getting married in September of this year and am on the board to get ideas. If you need a JP, I'd be happy to marry you at no charge of course. Just leave a message on this board and I will send you my e-mail address.

    Thanks!

Thanks! We're up in northeast CT though, so it's kind of far away. But thanks for the information. I'll give my town clerk's office a call.

You can do a courthouse or JOP ceremony as long as it's within the law of CT.  You'll need to get the marriage license where the wedding will be.

But make sure you guys can be covered with the insurance now that you're pregnant.  It may be considered a pre-existing condition.

When you have the vow renewal/blessing, if it doesn't involve the clergy then anyone can preside over the ceremony since you'll already be married.

I just moved to RI for work and I have been having a hard time finding a courthouse in RI to marry. My fiance is here on a fiance visa and we need to marry soon. I would like to get married in CT- it has easy requirements to obtain a license and has coruthouses. Any ideas of a courthouse that we can marry in? We plan to have a big ceremony in Vegas in the fall. Thanks.
