In need of another opinion…

My wedding is just a month away and I have run into, what I imagine is, a rather unique decision to make and would really love some help and insight! I walk with a single crutch, I have for many years now. The crutch is a part of who I am and I am in no way embarrassed by it. That being said, my mother and my tailor are pushing very hard to have me wrap the thing in tool. My tailor claims she did it for a MOB with a cane and it looked much better. They believe the grey and black crutch I have will be ugly next to my beautiful white dress. I really don’t like the idea of covering my crutch. I think trying to decorate it will only draw attention to the crutch, rather than me. Also, I feel almost like I am being pushed to hide the crutch, which I didn’t think I needed to do… What do you guys think? Or better yet, what would you do? THANK YOU!!

I, personally, would not decorate it. As you said, it's part of who you are and you aren't (and have no reason to be) ashamed of it.

I think you should do whatever you feel most comfortable doing. Never mind what they want you to do, what do YOU want? If you are comfortable with the crutch leave it alone. I kinda think you are right that by covering it, it will draw more attention to it. Maybe not cover it, but is there a way to get a white one? I think the poofy-ness of the tool will draw attention, but if it was just white, it would be more subtle.

The most important thing is that you are comfortable, so  I would leave the crutch as is.  People are used to seeing you with it so no one will notice it if it's left alone.  Tell whoever is pressuring you that you are more comfortable this way and hopefully they will back off!

I agree with pp, you should do what makes you comfortable. If you thought it would look nice decorated, there'd be nothing wrong with decorating it, but I see no reason to decorate it just to disguise it, and if you like it as is, leave it. I don't think anyone will have trouble focusing on you that day. Good luck with your decision!

Hey Nicole! I agree that you shouldn't cover it. I think it will look a little silly and will draw more attention to it. You are YOU, crutch or not. No need to hide it!

I think if you had made the choice to decorate or wrap it then it would be different. Like a joke that you yourself are okay with. However, i think if you do it because other people are pushing you to then its just going to make you feel uncomfortable about it. Plus, is there a chance any of that tool can rub on your arm or cause an irritation? I'm spitefull i think because when i read this i thought "just to piss them off i would have my whole bridal party pull out crutches"

I think its an assistive device...like glasses...are they asking anyone to wrap their glasses in tulle? Tell them, If everyone with glasses is willing to decorate them, you can do the crutch..otherwise no way! Fair is fair.
