Does the groom need to match the groomsmen? (xposted to Attire)

My fiance wants to wear ivory to match me. I don't have a problem with it at all. However, I'm just curious if anyone has seen this done before and how you thought it looked. The groomsmen will be wearing gray or black.

(I posted this here too because sometimes I can't stand the snark on the attire board! :P)

I've heard it looks stupid.  White and Ivory work just fine next to each other.  I personally would have the guys in white.

Yes he can do it! Esp if it's what he likes. Everyone always says it's all about the bride, but it's his day too. I was in a wedding where the bride & groom both wore white and the GMs and BMs wore black. It looked fantastic. Do it!!

My DH wore an ivory jacket with black pants. At first I thought he was crazy and on our wedding day he looked great.
My sisters hubby wore all white as well

I think it would look fine.  PP's pictures look great with it.

Does he want to wear an all white/ivory tux or just an all white/ivory vest and tie while the GM's wear one of the wedding colors?

I always vote for the groom to wear something different than the other GM's so he stands out as the groom. If he's wearing the same colors as the GM's he doesn't stand out at all. My DH wore the same tux as the other GM's but wore a white tie and vest to match me while the best man wore a gold vest and tie to match my MOH and the other GM's wore light pink to match the other BM's.

I think this is what we are going to do too.  However, if your FI wants to wear all white/ivory then he should!  I agree with PP that it's his day as well...I think it'll look great.

Thanks for your input ladies! I think he wants an all ivory getup, but I sort of like just the jacket. And thanks for the pics! Gives me a better idea of how it would look. I def want him to stand out too, because it's about US, not just ME as you said.

Ooooooh I thought you meant ivory shirt with traditional black jackets - an ivory jacket would look sharp!

I was thinking it was the old "does the white shirt look bad next to an ivory gown?" question.
