Aqua Turf?

We have been engaged a few weeks and are looking for a date sometime in Fall, 2013. We looked a venue in the Berkshires and I had my heart set on a mansion/historical type setting, but as someone who has virtually no help with planning (I'm in my early 40s, my mom passed away this year and I have no siblings) I am worried that a venue like that will involve having to take care of a lot of extra details (and expenses). We are going to look at the Aqua Turf Club and the reviews I read online were very positive. Has anyone had experience with them? Happy or not? The practical side of me says to look at a place like that where they take care of much of the reception details.

I met one of their reps at a bridal expo over the weekend and I was interested. I'd welcome any thoughts.

Thanks so much!

Re: Aqua Turf?

  • I've never been to a wedding there but I had two of my high school proms there.  Very pretty grounds and nice rooms!  I was actually a little surprised at the price compared to some others, and they don't include a cake in their price either.  Many other places I looked included cake and I was like you... definitely wanted to get as much in the package as possible. Good luck!

  • I was in a wedding there in 2011 and I have to say that it has changed a lot (all positive). Not sure if they are under new management or not but I the grounds are much nicer and the people seemed more friendly than few years ago when we were in a wedding and at the wedding there.
  • My cousin recently got married there, and I had a high school banquet there about 10 years ago. The grounds are lovely, I thought the cocktail hour food was delish but the entrees we had were pretty blah. The dessert table was pretty immense and delicious also, but the venmue's story behind it told by the DJ (something about a tradition of the bride and groom feeding each other from the fruits of life) was pretty corny.
  • I know a few people who have gotten married there and they were all really happy with the place. I know what you mean about all of the extra leg work. I really wanted to get married like a "back yard wedding" but nicer lol but I cant afford a wedding planner to take care of all the little stuff on the day of and I deff want to be in bride mode on that day not designer mode.
Have you looked at Saint Clements Castle? Its in portland.. beautiful. I know people who have gotten married there and were really happy with them too!
  • Thanks everyone for the feedback! We are also going to look at Saybrook Point Inn & Spa. A friend also mentioned Anthony's in New Haven.
  • My cousin got married at the Aqua Turf in October of 2010 and I LOVED it. I am scheduled to go meet with them in 2 weeks to talk about my day. It is my first choice.

I am hoping it fits in my budget, but I am not sure. My second choice would be St. Clemens, but from what I understand it is also expensive.

I need to win the lotto!!!
  • Try the Farmington Club as well. Same owners as the Aqua Turf and I found the grounds to be a little bit nicer...and I know soooo many people who got amrried at the Aqua Turf, we wanted our own place.
