Waveny House in New Canaan

Has anyone gone to a wedding at the Waveny House in New Canaan? What was your experience? Can you recommend a caterer?

Re: Waveny House in New Canaan

  • I just went there for a wedding in June!

LOVED the grounds and gardens.  It was great to walk around the place for cocktail hour and since the family has a ton of children, it was great for play for them too.

I don't know who catered it and I wasn't in love with the food that we had for that event but you can find a ton of catering options in FFld county.   I'm sure they would recommend someone.

Two things that I would keep in mind:
    1) Your guests will be seated in different rooms.   We weren't seated in the same room as the B&G or as other guests.   Because it was a family event there were some people we didn't connect with as much as we would have liked to.

    2) There is no air conditioning in there.   We were there as the first big heat wave in June was ending and luckily it was a night event.  Otherwise all the men in suits would have been down to their undershirts!    If you want a wedding during the day in the middle of summer I don't know what they'd do to keep the temps in check.j

  • Thanks for replying! I'm glad to hear you had a great time! Did they have the ceremony in the garden or on the patio? Since there are three separate rooms, where was the dance floor? Did they have a buffet or sit down?
  • The ceremony was in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Norwalk.

They had a buffet which was in the far left room (if you're facing the mansion).

The dance floor was in the front room.
  • I was married at Waveny in October '12.  Our ceremony/reception were both held there and the ambiance was incredible.  Our wedding was intimate, beautiful, elegant, and fun.  Please feel free to PM me with any questions, etc.

I HIGHLY recommend my caterer - Ciao Catering out of Danbury.  They also own Two Steps restaurant in Danbury.  The food was delicious and the service was top-notch.  Tom Devine (the owner) and his team were conscious of all of our needs.  Did I mention that the food was amazing?  I cannot say enough good things about Tom and about his right hand man - Al!  Al kept my husband and I, my parents, and my wedding party taken care of before, during, and after the wedding.  We did not want for nor have to worry about anything.

We had a smaller wedding (about 88 of us total) - we were seated in the main room and there is a smaller room toward the left (if you are facing out toward the patio).  We did ceremony, cocktail hour, dances, and speeches on the patio.  We moved indoors for dinner, more dancing, and cake.  There is an area right off of the second room that we used for dinner that was the bar area.  The other room, which is directly to the right of the main room (if you are facing the patio) is what we used for dancing.  There are various different configurations that you can use. It's also great to have use of both the indoor and outdoor spaces (weather-permitting).

There are only a few downsides to Waveny - pme is that it might be tight for a larger wedding - but I think if you're keeping it around 100 people give or take - it's the perfect size.  The other is that they don't have air conditioning - so I've heard about people needing to rent large fans, etc. to keep guests comfortable in the hotter months.
