I LOVE my maiden name so much I have it tattooed on me :)
    Posted by kfesta
SAME HERE! It was my first tat on my 18th birthday. People would joke and say what am i going to do when I get married - cross it out and put his name? But I LOVE my last name. I'll be sad to see it go. It's a semi-common 4-letter EASY name (my mom once said our last name is like dog sh!t - its everywhere!) to a 7-letter polish name. :( I've consdered adding it to my middle name, but am not sure. My cousin is dropping her middle name and making her maiden name her middle name.

I never thought twice about changing my name. Although I always knew I'd take DH's name, it was very hard to give up my maiden name because it was so different. I'm Armenian, and I rarely meet other Armenians, so it was great when people would be able to tell by my last name.

HOWEVER, I'm in love with my new last name because its so freaking cool. Some of my students giggle though when I introduce myself.

I was at an interview once, and the interviewer was like, "I just have you say, your last name is awesome!"
I tried to sign his last name the other night - I CAN'T DO IT!

I've been kind of excited about changing my name but, to tell you the truth, I hadn't even THOUGHT of the fact that it means I'll be signing a new name on a regular basis.  It's moments like these that a really question myself!!!

This post made me think of an embarrasing moment I had the other day. We went to Jared's so I could get my ring tightened, and while my fiance was off looking at wedding rings the man asked me to spell my fiance's last name. I couldn't, after trying several times! Finally, the man helping me just asked what his first name was and when he bought it. Boy, was my face red! Embarassed

OMG I just tried to sign my "new" name but it was hard - I kept going to write my last name. LOL. I need to practice the next 7 months! I'm going from an Italian last name to a VERY Irish last name. It's really going to be hard to change my name but I think it's the right thing to do. Plus my FI is the 4th - so we want to keep tradition going in hoping we have a boy and he will be the 5th. It's starting to be like royalty! LOL

I am changing because I like the unity of it and sharing his name but I'm not excited about it. I love my maiden name, it's unique and my full name sounds pretty but I know that it will be easier to have the same name as my husband and children. My middle name is also important to me as it is part of a family tradition and I don't want to lose it so legally I am going to be

    Mrs. Firstname Middlename Maidenname Marriedname

but socially I will drop my middle and use my maiden name as my middle to be:

    Mrs. Firstname Maidenname Marriedname

I'm also bummed because FI's real family name is von Müeller but when they came to the US they changed it to something much more generic because it kept getting misspelled. I tell him all the time to change it back but he has both his Ph.D.'s and lots of publications in his current name and it would be bad for his career. But II think being Mrs. von Müeller would be awesome!

I have an 8 letter last name, do does he. I want to hyphenate, but that would be nuts. My last name isn't common and although it is easy most people still mess it up. I even have a cute little monogram thingie I do when I initial things! His last name is constantly misspelled and mispronounced and I have dealt with enough of that myself. I feel like I should but I rather like HT instead of HC.

    I haven't tried signing it yet...Surprised

Truth be told,  I always thought I would keep my name because I am very attached to  my family.  It's true that my mother and her mother before her changed their names, but I dont have a middle name, and I think it would mean a lot to my dad, especially after mom passed on.  On the other hand, I think FH and I are forming a new family and I think for our future childen, it's important.  So I've decided to make Maiden my middle name  and take his as my last name, officially and signing as First, Maiden initial, Married.

this will be my second marriage...i did not change my name for my first marriage, and as much as that worked out well for me when my ex decided he wanted a divorce, I will definitely change it.  I want my husband and I to be a "family" and  have the same name as my husband and my future children.  that is just my opinion, to each their own!
