Spanx

I may have posted about spanx before, but I'm so absent-minded..I can't remember! Are you wearing/did you wear spanx under your gown? If so, what styles/types do you recommend? I went on the spanx website and there are SO many to choose from, it's overwhelming. I'm looking for something that "sucks everything in from the belly through the hips and butt (I have a fit n flare style that is tight through the waist, hips, and butt). I'm not worried about coverage anywhere north of the bellybutton, or anywhere south of the booty :) The nice thing about fit-n-flare is that the "flare" part covers the thighs!

If anyone has experience with spanx and/or any other undergarments, I would love to hear some reviews!

Re: Spanx

  • I have a pair of Spanx that are like bike shorts. They get the belly, butt and thighs. I also have a pair of Assets which are sold at Target by the same maker of Spanx. They are much cheaper and I have to say, they worked better than the Spanx. The top of the Spanx roll for some reason when I've worn them.  Both are super tight and take some effort putting on. They look so teeny but they will fit you, just use the measurement guide on the back.
  • I bought some spanx, but didn't wear them with my dress b/c I didn't want to feel so constricted when I was already very nervous for the big day.

I purchased mine at a local bridal shop for about $40.
  • I was going to wear a corset/krinoline combination thing under my dress, but my dress looks fabulous with or without it- I actually like it better without!

I would NOT recommend getting the kind that is a skirt of sorts on the bottom- I have one, and while it's great in theory, it's not so great for thighs that rub together and chaffe- very uncomfortable!

I do, however, recommend one that has a built in bra. I know you said that you weren't worried about the belly button up, but my experience has been that they roll and fall down unless they have a bra built in. But, that might just be my body type and maybe that wouldn't happen with you!
  • I bought 2 pairs of the "Skinny Britches" collection - bike shorts version.  They are meant to be layered.  It's a trumpet dress, and I wasn't so much looking for "sucking in" as I was "smoothing".  Plus, since these are less like hardcore spanx, they are a whole bunch more comfy.

  • i bought a shapewear thing from Kohl's that's just for the tummy--pretty much like a corset without the bra. that's really the only area i'm concerned about though, so it sounds like you'd want something different. the brand i got is Flexees though, if you're interested--it's pretty comfy for something that sucks in your stomach! lol

  • Yup spans does not work as well as half price merchandise from pennies or sears totally overpriced. I hated my $68 pair. Money wasted!
