Registering

Hi ladies!
When is a good time to register, or how many months out from your shower/wedding did you register? Our wedding is still a little bit of time away. Crate and Barrel is having a registry event coming up and just wanted to see when all of you registered to get a better idea.

Thanks!

Re: Registering

  • We registered SO EARLY.... I just couldn't help myself... but it was all done online.  When our shower started getting closer, we started going to actual registry events (Crate and Barrel's was AWESOME).  A lot of people will say to wait because inventory changes.  But it was helpful for me to get it started online when I had the time and then just switch out an item every now and then.  Once the shower invites went out, I took a serious look at our registry to make sure it was all up to date.

I don't think it could hurt to create one online for yourself now, but you might want to hold off on actually going to a registry event.  That way, you'll be able to see in-person a more updated inventory.  Also, it'll be another exciting thing that you can do together as the wedding gets closer.

    Good luck!

I don't think you can necessarily register too early except that some of the items you put on your registry may get discontinued, etc, but that's to be expected.  We had people prompting us to register very very early after we got engaged because they wanted to send us an engagement present.  That's really what got us to go and do it.

  • My wedding is in June and I registered in early December....so it was about 6.5 months before the big day. My shower is in April so it was about 4.5 months before the shower. The only thing that I didn't like about registering in December was the amount of holiday stuff that was out in the stores. I registered at Macy's and Crate and Barrel, and I had to go back and add some items after the new year. I still think I will be adding more items when the spring rolls around - like bedding...I'm waiting for Macy's to come out with their spring bedding collections. Otherwise, I don't think it's ever TOO early to register....just make sure you don't do it too late! I would say you should register a few months before your first gift-giving event (i.e. engagement party, shower, jack and jill, etc...)  Or you could just start your registry early and continue to add to it. Have fun!

This, exactly this.  Go ahead and register if you guys want to!  We did at about the 1 year mark, but there's no rules.  Just be sure to check back before any showers (or around the 6 month mark, in case there's a surprise shower!) to remove items that are no longer available and add new ones that might have come out.  After a shower, it's a good idea to look at it again to add more items at a variety of price points.

Have fun! It's a great idea to go in person, because they tend to give out freebies for registering.

We registered early too....better to be early right!?

Our wedding was this past July & we registered in November/December. It worked out really well since my shower was in June. Lots of family got us gifts from our registry for Christmas which was nice too.

Start early so you can switch things around if you want.

    GL & have fun!

  • Our wedding is in April, shower in early March- we registered in November-ish at two places. I think, like PP said, you can't register too early. I would hold off on the event though, they will have tons more and everything will be more up to date for you! Have fun :)
  • We got engaged last Christmas and waited until right after Christmas this year to register.  Part of the reason we waited though was because we don't need too much so we didn't want to be receiving Christmas gifts of items off of our registry.
  • We registered super early, so that we could slowly choose instead of having to rush and get a full registry. We have A LOT of time still and add things online here and there. I don't think there's a hard and fast rule. We were too excited to wait! Haha
