Charleston honeymoon

Does anyone know of any affordable places to stay in Charleston? Our budget is probably $1,000 for lodging, car rental, food and entertainment. Mostly we want to see the beaches which is free! Are there any quieter beaches where we might find an affordable B&B or oceanfront hotel? Anything within walking distance of the beach would be awesome. Thanks!

  • I use to live in charleston and price all really depends on the time of year you are going.  During the late spring, summer and fall certain places can be pretty pricey.  Also how long are you going for?  I would avoid staying downtown UNLESS you have AAA or another discount club you belong to....I know AAA can provide some great rates for hotels downtown! As for the beach, you could probably look into renting a small bungalow near the beach (i would recommend folly beach...its a little more lively than Isle of Palms and some others) but be advised that they usually only rent for a week at a time during the summer months.  Some of the condos located in the high rises on the beach might offer descent rental rates as well so I would check those out.  To find some of the listings just google vacation rental properties in folly beach, sc or isle of palms, sc and see what pops up for realty companies.

As for places to go that could fit in your budget...I would take a walking tour of downtown...DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY on one of those dumb carriage rides.  They cost 60 bucks per person and you can do the same stuff on your own and spend more time at places that interest you. Your hotel or the tourist bureau dt will have walking tour maps that you can follow for free.  I would also check out the battery which holds a lot of really cool history and take the boat tour out to fort sumpter.

There are also some descent restaurants dt that aren't going to charge you an arm and a leg.  S.N.O.B. is one of those places (stands for slightly north of broad, which is basically a pun on the fact that all the snobs live south of broad). Also check out Moe's tavern crosstown (the "downtown" one isnt as good)  its a little off the beat and path of the main part of the city but the food is awesome and cheap.  Keep in mind moe's is a bar restuarant and seating is first come first serve...its a local favorite and best kept secret so go early.  Bocci's italian restaurant on church is great and cheap as well.

I hope this helps and let me know if you need more advice.Cool

  • We'll be going the Nov. 1-6. I did look into hotels in Folly Beach. We found a nice B&B (Waters Edge Inn?) that we were considering but to stay the length of time we wanted to would be over $900. I'll keep Moe's Tavern in mind, sounds neat. Thanks!
