What a reasonable waiting time for a response from a photographer?

I'm getting frustrated with a few photographers. What is the reasonable amount of time that I should wait for a response.  I sent an email to a few last week and still have not heard back. How frustrating!

If you are waiting to hear from Studio1923, I e-mailed them a few days ago and haven't heard a response either.  Usually Jen is very good about getting back to me (within a couple of days).  We are already booked with them and when we met with them about 3 weeks ago Jerome's wife Jen was due to have her baby in about 5 weeks so that may have something to do with it.  Not sure, just throwing an idea out there.

My photographer (Val McCormick) is pretty good about getting back to me but if I email her over the weekend sometimes it will be Monday or Tuesday before I get a response. I figure they work long weekends, although she did contact me on Saturday with an answer to  questions about make-up that I had.  She has been really great with helping me with the wedding planning.  I don't know what I would of done without her other than the TK message boards.  I would try either resending the email just in case they didn't get it or follow up with a phone call if their website provides a number.  If you still don't hear within a few days I would be concerned.

Some of them have office assistants that respond to their email. I had a heck of a time getting a response from my photographer when I first emailed them but then FI emailed their office assistant and she got right back to us.

I'd call them if you really are wondering what's going on. Mine is good about getting back- but if you e-mail over the weekends, it usually takes 4 days to hear back beacuse he's usually busy shooting things on the weekend. Calling is more responsive with mine. I think it depends.

With a saturated market, I don't think you should wait long at all!  My feeling is that because brides are willing to pay so much for wedding costs these days, some vendors don't accommodate the customer as much as they should because wedding decisions are so emotional.

I do love our photographer, Nikki Nicole Photography.  Here is a link to her site.  The quality of her work is top notch and pricing is reasonable!  (She's also got an associate photographer that is a little less expensive.)

I am sorry but if you do not hear from them the next day.... what would you expect from them after you book them.  I personally will not book a photographer or any other vendor if they don't respond within 24hrs. Claudia (Fabuluxe Photos) got back to me the 1st day.

I'm in total agreement with this. These photographers are running a business. I could never get away with ignoring my clients for more than 24 hours! Some of the photographers I contacted via email at least sent an automated reply advising when I could expect to hear from them. At least that's acknowledgement.

Move on down the list if you don't hear back within 1-2 days. If you hear back later than that, I'd expect an explanation right off the bat. GL

In all fairness, the snow has been messing up a lot of plans for businesses.  Perhaps they are unable to get to their computer/e-mail.

I would try calling them - may be a better mode of contact at this rate?

When I was researching for photographers I emailed a bunch of photographers and my rule of thumb was if I don't hear back within a week I stop considering them.

Most of them have been pretty good about responding quickly and if photography is their full-time job and their only job they would.  To me that means they focus more on the photography and less likely to screw up (some photographers do this as a part-time).  Bad weather or not if they have the proper means to for communication it shouldn't affect them.

I think give them a week or a week and a half is good but after that it may be that they just don't realy care or they didn't care to update their contact info.  I know there had been one or two photogs that I have seen recommended on this board that never got back to me.

    Good luck!
