July 2012 Weddings

Uh-oh

So my fitting was this afternoon.  My grandma is doing the alterations, so my mom came with.
Bad news: they couldnt get it zipped. :( It came in in september, and I tried it on in the store, but the lady said the zipper was just finicky and would require two people, otherwise it fit perfect.
But my mom, grandma and sister could not get the zipper to go up today.I didnt think i had gained much, if any, weight. Isnt this one of every bride's nightmares?

Good news: my dress doesnt need a slip. the less layers in july, the better. And it doesnt need any other alterations.

Im so sad right now.

  • Oh no! You have PLENTY of time, though. Don't freak out.

Are you sure your family members weren't just being careful with the fabric? I know sometimes my fiance doesn't want to zip me up in dresses because he's like "I don't want to rip the fabric!" but, in reality, it's totally fine and just a hard-to-zip dress. Are you SURE they weren't being like that?

    In any event, HUGS!

Do you think you can bring it to the store and have them check the zipper?? And you definitely have plenty of time to get everything perfect!!

Yeah same as PPs, are you sure it wasn't just the zipper?? And not actually your weight??
  • If the dress came with a finicky zipper shouldn't the store replace it?  Is your dress very elaborate that it would be difficult to replace it?

agreed with the above!  don't freak out yet!
  • Definitely try zipping it up without you in it and if you have problems go call that store.  I hope its just that! If not you have tons of time still!

  • Hugs!  You still have time if its not just the zipper.  My dress wont zip either Embarassed...its so close.  I am starting the Master Cleanse on Monday...I know that in 2 weeks my dress will zip as long as I stick to it.  I hope its just the zipper though...i know I am going to be the crankiest person alive while I am doing the cleanse...but dropping this weight and cleansing my body makes it worth it.

  • I agree with the others!! it sounds like it might just be a zipper problem. my mom and my fiance say the same thing when I ask them to zip me up in something - "I don't want to hurt you!" " I don't want to hurt the dress/fabric!" And I bet they would be even more careful with a wedding dress zipper than an everyday dress zipper.

You still have plenty of time though - I would definitely take it into your seamstress/dress boutique to have them check out the zipper. If it is NOT the zipper, I am sure they would have an alterations fix for you.

    Good luck, keep us updated!!!
