wedding dress shopping

What types of undergarments should I wear?  I was already planning on a strapless bra, but what about underwear?  I wasn't going to wear a thong since I don't think it's necessary for the person helping me with dresses to see that, so now I'm debating between boyshort type underwear or just a regular bikini underwear?!

Re: wedding dress shopping

  • When I went they actually gave me a bra to wear-it was more of a boustier type thing as it covered some of the stomach area.

I'd just wear whatever underwear you're most comfortable in (I agree no thong!). They've seen it all and are very professional. Good Luck!

  • I'm on the other side... The people are so professional and personally a thong that didn't give me any lines was the best bet since I didn't want any weird rumpling while trying on the dresses. I'm sure they've seen worse. You could also put yourself in the dress and just have the consultant finish corset, zipper, etc. I did this at numerous stores because I felt more comfortable doing it myself.

  • i believe most places will have a bra for you.  My sugesstion is to wear light colored underwear.
  • I wore my strapless bra and boy shorts. My mom, cousin and grandma was often in the room while I was changing, so I wasn't wearing anything revealing. My dress is thick enough that there were no panty lines or problems like that.
  • I was totally unprepared for my first appointment... wore a thong and needed to use their bra.  I apologized to the girl for the thong thing but she was used to seeing it all haha.

For every other appointment, I went with my own strapless bra and boyshorts.
  • Some places offer a bra/boustier type of thing for you to wear - at one appointment, I wore their bra. At the others, I wore my own strapless bra. Definitely wear a strapless bra that fits well (all that tugging and movement will definitely cause your bra to shift while you're trying to get those dresses over your head!) And I would recommend boyshorts that are fitted (again, nothing that is going to bunch or sag too much). I wore boyshorts that covered my booty because I am quite modest, but they were still tight enough so that I didn't have crazy bunchy panty lines. I'm sure bikini style underwear is fine too.

And honestly, if you are most comfortable in a thong, I say wear what you want. Like some of the PPs said here....I'm sure these bridal consultants have seen it all, and won't be offended or bashful about a little booty! haha

  • I wore Spanx that had a strapless bra and it was the dress spanx so it went down to mid thigh. Every place I went people commented about how it was a great idea!
