The Woodwinds, Branford CT

I am looking for some advice from brides that may have gotten married at the Woodwinds. We are having a Sept 2013 wedding at The Woodwinds in Branford, CT. Trying to figure out the best place for our guests to stay overnight along with transportation. The only decent place nearby is the Holiday Inn Express which does not have a place to have an after party and I feel as though it isn't really a place I'd like to stay over on my wedding night. I do realize New Haven is 15min down the road but providing a bus to transport guests to the reception and back can be extremely costly. Just wanted some advice from past brides. Any info will be helpful!! :)

Re: The Woodwinds, Branford CT

  • I've stayed at that Holiday Inn before and believe it or not, was pleasantly surprised.  Friends of mine had a Woodwinds wedding and that's where the room block was, but it was really nice.
  • We had good friends get married at The Woodwinds back in September. They blocked rooms at the Holiday Inn Express and had their after party at Chuck's Steakhouse, http://www.chucksbranford.com/.

    Anniversary
  • I'm also a Sept 2013 Woodwinds bride!!! :)I went back and forth with the hotel situation. There are nicer hotels in the New Haven area, but the drive is longer and there's no guarantee that those hotel shuttles can be reserved just for us. In the end I decided on blocking rooms at the holiday inn express on the following thought...my guests aren't going to be there for that long. They also don't have a shuttle at the holiday inn and my fiance kept saying that its only 2 miles for people to drive. Anything can happen in that 2 miles if you're driving drunk after a wedding. We're going to keep our party bus through the night so that if people have had a "few too many" the bus can take them to the holiday inn, then the next day they can pick up their cars at Woodwinds. I don't expect my bridal party to be driving at all so we'd have the party bus anyway. We are spending our wedding night at the Inn associated with Woodwinds :) I haven't thought about a place for the after party yet, but Chucks is a great idea considering their lounge is open until 2am! I hope this helps!!!
  • I got married at the Woodwinds in Sept 2012 and had people stay at Holiday Inn Express. They actually allowed us to use their big room to hang out and party. We ended up bringing left over pastries and people brought booze and close friends and family hung out there.
