Groomsmen and FIance attire suggestions....

Hey Ladies,

So, I attached a picture of my bridesmaid dresses....light blue with a navy sash.  What do you think the groomsmen and my fiance should wear for colors (for example, a navy patterned vest with navy striped tie, light blue checkered vest with light blue plain tie, etc...).  My fiance wants to wear something different than the groomsmen, so that makes it tricky!

Also - when are they supposed to order them and try them on and get them altered?  My FIance said that Men's Wearhouse said they order them, but can't try them on until 3 days before the wedding....seems like it's cutting it close!

Any help in the tux department would be fantastic...thanks ladies, and happy planning :)

Re: Groomsmen and FIance attire suggestions....

  • I'd go with something classic like a regular tux wtih silver vest and tie.   In more and more weddings, the color for the GM is in something subtle but not in their vests / ties.

We used Men's Warehouse for our wedding and the GM had to go there to be measured by a certain date - maybe a month or two before the wedding.

The tuxes were in 3 days before the wedding and the men tried them on at that time.   They aren't actually altered but adjusted.    Since the men are renting the clothing, they opt for tricks like adjustable vests and pants.   The important thing is that they get the jacket sizing correct and the pants are the right length.

The guys should also go eariler than the day before the wedding if possible.   Then there's time to overnight any replacement pieces.
  • I would probably have the GM wear navy blue vest and tie.  And have your FI wear white or Ivory (whatever color dress you have).  I am also using Men's wearshouse and we had a good experience so far.  As PP said the tux are rentals and they make adjustments not alterations.  I think you will run into that at most places.
