How comfortable is your gown?

I went dress shopping for the 2nd time yesterday :) I found one I really liked, but it didn't feel like "the one" so I'm going to keep looking. It was the first one I tried on yesterday--at first I thought it felt really heavy & kind of restrictive (it's an allover lace fit & flare) so I tried on more. Some of the others felt alot lighter & more comfortable, but I didn't really like how they looked. I decided to try on the first one again, and it didn't feel quite as heavy after trying on the others & getting used to it.

I'm just wondering how others' experiences were--does your gown feel 100% comfortable, like you can move around freely (and sit down/dance/breathe! haha) ? Or is it normal for it to maybe feel heavy/a little restrictive? If it has tulle, doesn't it kinda feel like the dress is wearing you? I'm sure it depends on the style, and you'll probably get used to it regardless, but I want to make sure I'm not being unrealistic is thinking the dress should be pretty comfortable too.

Thanks! :)

I voted "a little uncomfortable, but nothing I can't deal with for a day" - once its on, I hardly notice...but once its on, I can't stop sweating under the skirt!!!  TMI I'm sure, but that will be teh most uncomfortable part of it all.  :(

I experienced both when trying on dresses.  I tried on a Maggie Sottero dress and it was SO HEAVY and UNCOMFORTABLE.  I had it on lke 10 mins and my back was killing me.  I thought no way can I wear this dress all day and night!  I know a lot of girls love Maggie dresses, but it was just way too uncomfortable for me.

Then I tried on the dress that I bought at White Dress and it fit like a dream.  Not heavy at all!  It is so comfortable and eventhough it has a similar shape to the Maggie dress that I tried on the fabric is much more luxurious and not as heavy.  You definitely get what you pay for!

I found a lot of satin gowns to be very heavy, especially with a train.  I tried on my Mom's gown with a cathedral length train and commented (without thinking - foot meet mouth) that it was like dragging around a dead animal.  Luckily my Mom found that hilarious rather than offensive!  Needless to say, I didn't want to wear her gown or anything with a similar weight to it.

The dress I bought is a lace bodice, but it flares at the hip so it doesn't restrict my legs.  It's got a tulle skirt so it's quite light, even though it does have a bit of a train.  I haven't tried on "my dress" yet since it hasn't come in, and the sample was a bit small so it was hard to know how comfortable it is.  There was some scratchy lace on the inside of the neckline of the bodice, but she promised to cover it with silk so it wouldn't chaff my skin.  Otherwise, I could move easily and it wasn't too heavy.

If anything was uncomfortable, I would have either had it fixed or found another dress.  I would hate to have being uncomfortable be a memory of my wedding!

I just purchased mine and it's a silk taffeta, which seems super light and comfortable!  I didn't want to take it off!

Mine was 23lbs. I actually got used to it and danced the night away without any issues, but when I first put it on it felt very uncomfortable.

At first I only wanted a Maggie dress because I loved the dresses on her site.  But once I started trying them on (about 10 or so) I noticed that the dresses have so much fabric and are sooo heavy.  The one Maggie I liked the most was allover heavy satin with a bubble skirt and must have weighed 50 pounds! lol!

I ended up going with a dress from a designer I never really looked at, and the fabric is "soft satin" which is actually extremely lightweight and comfortable.  The dress I tried on was one size too small so I don't know exactly how it will feel.  But I can only assume that since the smaller size was still comfortable, then my dress should feel even better.

I personally would not be happy if my dress was even the slightest bit uncomfortable.  I get very flustered and cranky if I'm uncomfortable and no one wants to feel that way on their wedding day lol!

    Good luck!

I think this can be hard to tell until you have the dress altered to fit you! Also when I first put on my dress I was like oh man this isnt to comfortable in the skirt area but it was really because one of the layers was bunched up and then once that was fixed it made all of the difference. So it is really hard to tell with a dress that hasnt gone through the fittings. Once it is tailored right it makes all of the difference! Good Luck!

I tried on some that I couldn't move in, they were WAY too heavy. My dress is a little heavy, but I know I can deal- the deal breaker for me was if I could see myself dancing in it, it was a keeper, if I would have to pull it up all night or feel like I had gained 20 lbs I wouldn't wear it.

I voted a little uncomfortable, but nothing I can't deal with for a day.  Mine is a strapless fit and flare with a lace overlay and beading throughout.  It's semi heavy but I don't think I will notice it at all.  The only thing I am worried about is the beading on the top of the dress making my underarm area itchy and irritated.  I guess that is standard with any beading on a dress, and I definitely wanted beading.

Mine was silk organza, and although it had many layers, was still very light and comfortable. My dress was strapless, so being light was very important. I didn't want to risk a wardrobe malfunction in front of everyone we know, lol. If your gown has straps, I think you could probably get away with a heavier gown without risking comfort.
