Spray Tan

Hi ladies,

Is anyone doing spray tanning for their wedding? (Or has anyone done it w/ good results in the past?) I don't want to be pasty (as our wedding is in mid June) but don't want to do tanning beds because they're horrible for you. I used the Jergen's foam & face lotion for my friend's wedding last month, but only used it for a week and just got really subtle color.

I've heard good things about airbrush tanning--has anyone tried it? My sister did the Mystic Tan a couple years ago & it looked really orange, so I think that option's out. I also want to make sure the color doesn't rub off of my dress! Thinking of trying it out a couple weeks beforehand too to make sure it looks OK. Open to recommendations for salons in the Wallingford area, too!! :) Thx!

Re: Spray Tan

  • I got spray tanned when I was in my sister's wedding and it was amazing!! She got married in September and I wanted some color but I didn't want to look like I was just at the beach for a week either and the girl who sprayed me got the color just right and I think it looked great in pictures. I'm planning on going back to her before my wedding in November. The girl I used is named Jessica and if you PM I can give you her contact info. She can travel to you too which was great for me, hope that helps!

  • Jacki, I have gone to Naomi's Salon several times in West Hartford. IIt takes about 30-35 minutes from Wallingford so not too bad. I plan to do it for the wedding as well! Hope all is well!
  • I have also spray tanned before and plan to do so before I get married...In the past I have went and got a mystic tan (i totally think the orange color comes from which bottle you ask for) the first bottle helps you build your tan and is the extended release where your color comes over during the 8 hrs where you cant shower) after i used this the only places i saw orange were my hands and feet even with using barrier cream... after i had that experience i started tanning in a tanning bed and then getting spray tanned right after with mystic and I switched to the spray tan using the bronzing color... it was much better, it was an instant bronze. For my wedding I am def. not using mystic tan..i havent been in a tanning bed for over a year, and dont want to risk gettng orange with the first bottle they make you use! At a bridal show I went to I met the lovely ladies of SunSpray Tans in Milford, CT. After talking with them more they recc. you get sprayed two days before your wedding, and have your mani's/pedis and any waxing done before hand. I do plan to try it out way before my wedding though. I have heard great things about them, and they personally spray you using an organic spray. They also mentioned that it will turn the color that you normally turn when you are tan.

I got airbrushed the Wednesday before our Saturday wedding. It worked out perfect and stayed great! We got married on one of the hottest days ever last July ( I think it was in the middle of a heat wave actually) and it still managed to stay well. It did rub off on the inside of my dress but between the heat and all the dancing I expected that! Highly suggest it!

    In the morning....

This was outside in the afternoon, hours later IMO the hottest point of the day, I was sweating like crazy here & still couldn't tell I had gotten airbrushed.

My sister goes to Naomi's Salon in West Hartford. They use St. Tropez tan, which does look the most natural. She is very fair, and never looks orange.

Not sure if this is in your neck of the woods, but I recommend a place called Tan Lines Optional in Cheshire. I've been sprayed there many times, and she does a great job. She sprays you by hand...I recommend that over the Mystic Tan. The machines tend to come out more orange than the hand-sprayed airbrush. I was worried about stripping down in front of a stranger and having them spray me! But she is VERY professional and very nice. Her prices are affordable too.

I believe Dana Bartone recently added spray tanning to her services, as well. She has a great reputation so I imagine her spray tan would be high-quality, too. Definitely do it 2-3 days before the wedding! And you might want to do a trial run first...get sprayed a few months in advance and see how you like it. GL!

  • I got spray tanned the Thursday before my Saturday wedding at Rituals in Guilford.  I think it was perfect, they have different levels base don how dark you want, I just did a 1 because I didn't want it to be unnatural to me.

I had the airbrush tan at Naomi's for my wedding and it was perfect.  I have very fair skin and the St. Tropez formula that they use looks so natural and is a beautiful golden color.  Highly recommend going to Naomi's Salon for your spray tan. :)

  • Ditto other posters on Airbrush over mystic tan. I actually have a second job at a tanning salon(oh wedding bills!), and air brush people myself. The formula the mystic tan uses is hit or miss depending on your skin tone. Also, a tech can fix a mistake if he/she makes one, whereas you're stuck with whatever you get with mystic tan.

Just like to add, there is alot of misinformation out there about tanning beds being horrible for you. It's not really true. Sun burns are what causes all those problems down the road. If you go into a bed, particularly a low pressure(most like natural sunlight), as long as you take it slow and don't try to go in for 20+ minutes your first time, you won't burn, thus no lasting damage.
  • I've gone to Naomi's in West Hartford and am most likely going for our wedding. I personally recommend 23 days out from your wedding and I would test it out a couple weeks before the wedding.
  • Also check out Hot Tans in Southington...the owner created her own formula & it's all natural. I did a trial & loved it.
