Bridal Portraits today!!!

So excited!!  I'm taking them at a very southern estate here in Little Rock called Magnolia Hill.  I'm leaving soon for my hair appointment.  Hoping it's not TOO hot and humid.

Is anyone else planning on taking bridal portraits - or has anyone taken any yet???

I've never heard of this. So you get all dressed up like you will on your wedding day and take pics now??? I've only heard of after the wedding pics. Aren't you scared about ruining your dress?

  • Oooh have fun! I'm not doing them. It's not common in my neck of the woods, and I don't have time to do them anyway. So what will you use them for? An announcement in the paper?

  • Yeah, not common in the Northern areas of the US.  But sounds like you will have a great time and a perfect location!

    Have fun!

I'm curious what this is as well..I"ve never heard of it but it sounds like fun!

  • The portraits usually are put in the newspaper with the wedding announcement - espeically if the announcement is going in the same week's newspaper (Saturday wedding, Sunday newspaper).  I've also seen a lot of brides use one of the portraits at the reception, usually on the cake table.  It helps to save time the day of the wedding: fewer photos to take = more free time before the wedding and more time to spend with guests after the ceremony.  And people also say it helps them to get more comfortable with the photographer - but I've known mine for years and we had our engagements with him also.  But it couldn't hurt - I always find it awkward in front of the camera.

I'm not worried about ruining the dress today any more than I'm worried about ruining it the day of the wedding.  And at least this way, if something does happen, there's still a lot of time to have it fixed.
  • I had no idea this was mainly a southern tradition!

I'm also using this as the trail for hair and makeup too.  That's probably not as typical, but my stylist has done my hair and makeup for other events, so I feel comfortable doing this.

It is a southern thing, I found that out a while ago too. My cousin did one and put a large picture of her on an easel at the entrance of the reception. Hers was a little too much haha but I've seen toned down versions of this at a few weddings as well. I'm personally not doing it just because it's never been a tradition in my family. Have fun though and enjoy it! PIP later! :)
  • They do them out here in Utah a LOT.  They are about the price of an engagement session usually.  Often photography packages will include wedding day plus engagements and/or bridals.

If you want your FI to be all dressed up with you (rather than you all by yourself), they call them groomals sometimes.  Some do this days after the wedding as well.

You get all dolled up and then you get lovely shots of you in a gorgeous setting.  Often I think the bride looks more put together than on the actual day.  Not sure how they manage a bouquet.  Guessing you use get two?
  • Awesome! Have fun!!

I'm not doing one- I've never heard of this before until I joined TK! But hey I did the boudior ones! :)

  • I have never heard of anyone around here doing this. It seems to strange to be fully decked out in your dress, veil, etc. when it isn't your wedding day! Have fun, though, it sounds like a blast :)

I did take boudoir pictures in my underwear and my veil, though, so I guess that's kind of the same thing, haha!
  • I think it's a weird tradition. But to each their own.
