Dress Shopping in CT

I live in CT (Southington) and just booked my wedding for 9/26/2010 in Las Vegas.  I have my first dress shopping appointments in NYC on 3/6 but am afraid I won't find anything.  Any suggestions on dress places to try closer to home in CT?

Thanks!

    Congrats on booking your wedding!

I highly suggest Mariellas in Rocky Hill, Classic Brides by Eva in Stratford, and Something Blue Bridal in Southbury. I had great experiences in all three shops. HTH!

I had a great experience at White Dress by the Shore in Clinton, CT.  I'm planning on going back there and I also plan on making an appointment at Mariella's and Something Blue as PP said.
    Good Luck!

I didn't find my dress here, but had a good experience at Julie Allen's in Newtown. We ordered our bridesmaids dresses from there.

I second White Dress By The Shore.  The service was fantastic, they worked within my budget (not a lot) and everyone there was lovely.

Good, I feel like I have a list to set up for the weekend of March.  I just feel like I'm starting the dress shopping experience late and want to make sure I have enoguh time for fittings and everything.

    Thanks again.

I would definately recommend Harold's in New Haven. Everyone there was absolutely amazing to work with, and they really helped me pick out the perfect dress. After trying on about 20 dresses that I picked out myself, Annette went back into their inventory and pulled exactly what I wanted.

Another random question (clearly this is totally new to me) -- I'm a size 10/12 in normal clothes, I know I'll have to go up in size for the dress, do the store carry samples that will be big enough?

I'm the same size, and they told me I was perfect for sample sizes. I bought the sample of my dress, and it was a 10. HTH

I kind of freak out when I hear the term "sample size" -- makes me think they're all going to be size 2s.

I second Harold's, that is where we got the bridesmaid dresses- they are fantastic. I got my dress from Stars in Avon. I was reluctant to go to them at first but they have been great!
    Good luck and happy planning!

I had good experiences at Stars in Avon and Julie Allen's in Newtown. Best experience was at Something Blue Bridal in Southbury- both my dress and my BM dresses are coming from Something Blue.

Most sample dresses are between sizes 8 and 12. I wear an 8 street size and bought the sample of my dress in a 10.

Have fun looking for your dress!!!

I haven't bought my dress yet but have fallin in love with a dress at the plumed serpent in westport.  i love that store, everyone is so nice, and i really feel like they care that I'm getting the dress of my dreams.  i also have had great experiences at white dress by the shore in clinton, and modern trouseau (sp) in branford.

i did not have a good experience at mariellas, i felt rushed and like i didnt get any attention -- my consultant didn't really seem to be paying attention to what i was saying, and then up and left halfway through.  but everyone else has good things to say about the place, so don't let my experience prevent you from going.

I first started out at Mariella's and did not find what I was looking for.  It did not seem that they had much of a selection that was (1) a ball gown and (2) under $2000.  I then went to Michelle's Bridal in Westbrook and loved it, but did not find my dress.  I then went to Stylez for the Aisle in East Windsor.  Great service, but still did not find anything.  I then went to Camille's in West Hartford.  The dresses are great, but pricey.  Also, the dressing rooms stink--not enough room, I kept tripping and hitting the wall.  I did find a gown there but needed to add bead work that would be an additional $500.  Finally, I found my dress at Harold's Formal WEar in New Haven.  They are fabulous.  Nice big dressing rooms where you can bring a ton of people, a great selection, and the service is fabulous.  Annette is wonderful!  I also ordered my bridesmaids' dresses through Harold's and my girls got 10% off.

stylish impressions in farmington. My sister and my cousin both got their dresses there.

I got my dress @ Brides to Be, it's a bridal consignment store, but they have plenty of new dresses for good prices.  And the BM dresses we purchased thru Christie-Anne's in Meriden.  Great place and great prices.

I just ordered my dress from Brial Trousseau in Branford. At the end of this month they are moving down the street to a much bigger location, which should be a lot better.
I also had great experiences with Marie's in Fairfield, Julie Allen and Classic Brides by Eva.
Plumed Serpent in Westport is VERY expensive, FYI... I went with my friend this weekend who ordered her dress there and tried on veils... the first one she was given to try one was gorgeous, but it was $2300!!!! Not joking. Needless to say she didn't purchase it.
