IN|Focus Videography?

Is anyone here familiar with IN|Focus Wedding Films based out of Boston? They travel throughout New England and seem to be affordable, but FI and I are a bit wary because we can't find any reviews for them. On their website, they provide a link to a 5-star review on Weddingwire, but we realized that that review is actually about a different videography company (also located in Boston) with essentially the same name. So, we're a bit suspicious... even if the review was simply posted in the wrong place (which would be easy to do because of the name similarity) why make a point of linking to it, directly? No other reviews are provided on their Weddingwire page, so it seems to be a bit misleading.

The owner of the IN|Focus videography company we are inquiring about is named John Francis, while the other Infocus videography company is run by a woman named Elena Coyne.

Here's the one we're wondering about: http://www.infocusweddingfilms.com/

And here's the other one: http://infocusvideo.com/

From what I can tell, the two companies are not related.

I posted about this on the Boston board, but I wanted to ask here, as well, because they are listed as a featured vendor on The Knot for the CT section.

Re: IN|Focus Videography?

  • I've never heard of them, but I'd ask them that question and see how they respond.  And I'd probably call up the other company with a similar name and ask them about the confusion.

Personally, I would probably look elsewhere if I was at all suspicious of my vendor's integrity and without references.  If you give us a budget and where our wedding is, I'm sure the girls here would have lots of ideas!

  • I've also never heard of them. You're right to be suspicious... it's strange that they would link to someone elee's reviews. I'd say go with your gut on this one, and if they don't have a really good answer for why they did that, go with someone else.
  • I have been emailing this guy back and forth. He was very quick with his responses, literally within 5 min of me sending them, and even offered a discount if we booked him that same day. When we brought up that we don't feel comfortable highering someone without meeting them and want to see him next time he's in town he never gave a direct response. We also asked for references, preferably the ones that he has videos of to which his response was yes, it's been a few days and I have not heard anything back from him after sending a few extra follow up emails. His facebook page was started in May 2012 and looks very empty. He only has one review, for which he could have easily created an account and written it, and he disappeared from contact when we started requesting proof of legitimacy. Needless to say we're not going with him!!!! If you have already put a deposit with him, make sure you have a back up plan because i doubt he'll show.
  • Hello everyone, I'm getting married in Los Angeles in July and have also been inquiring about John Francis. I stumbled across this thread in an attempt to find reviews for him. He also has been extremely quick with his responses to me and immediately gave me a discount and was very willing to work with time constraints that I brought up. I asked when we could meet and he said several days before the wedding and then his next email said we could meet the day before the wedding. This obviously wouldn't work and I think is a pretty good indication that he doesn't plan on showing up! I would be very careful with this guy.
  • <div>I'm glad you went with your gut. This guy is a scam artist. He has my money and my wedding footage and hasn't answered any of my emails of phone calls in months.</div><div>

  • <div>Don't hire him! I did and was never able to meet with him in person. He sent another guy to film my wedding and then disappeared with my money and my footage. It's been months since I have been able to get in contact with him.</div><div>
