Question about tipping...

How much should I tip the woman who found my wedding dress for me.

It was early afternoon on a snowy day at David's Bridal and I had tried on about 12 dresses and totally given up on finding one that I loved, and this sales girl just wouldn't quit. She kept asking me to try on one more. She brought out dresses I would have never even picked up and they looked better than any of the ones I had picked.
This girl was dilligent and kind (I was bloated and grumpy and she handled me so well).
When she brought the dress to me I remembered liking it on the website and had forgotten about it. She let me know it was on sale too!

This girl worked hard for it, and she sold the dress that day!
It was $550, so how much should I tip her?

For me, I think that that's their job - to find THE dress. And I'm sure she made a commission on the sale. I wouldn't tip. But maybe I'm just cheap/wierd. A nice thank you note to her might very well be sufficient. Also, if you copied the note and sent it to her boss so that she get the kudos she deserves, that might be worthwhile.

I agree with the PP. I didn't tip either... didn't know you were supposed to.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they get commission and are paid to find that dress for you. I agree that a thank you note would be really appreciated if you feel strongly about doing something for her.

I agree with PPs... there is no need to tip.  If you REALLY have a strong desire to do something for her as a thank you, I'd say buy a $20 starbucks giftcard or something like that and put it in a thank you card for her.  Anything above that is really unnecessary and even that is going above and beyond.

At David's Bridal they can't except tips, however a thank you card with a gift card they can accept.

I don't believe you tip them. They get commission. What would be even better is to tell her manager how wonderful a job she did and recommend the manager give her some sort of recognition or keep this in mind for her next review.

DItto! I think the thank you or notice to a manager would be more than enough

Don't send the card. It can easily get lost! Just call to see when she is there and hand deliver it. It is super chaotic and the card could get lost in the shuffle.

I also ditto contacting the store manager to get the consultant recognition is fantastic for her. The ft girls ONLY get paid via commission and the PT girls make crap money. Emailing DB with a compliment will go through all the important people above store level AND get to her manager, which should get her some respect and maybe more time on the schedule.
