Celebrity Cruise Lines

Hello readers!

I am semi new to these boards and was wondering if anyone has been on Celebrity Cruises?  One of our many possible options for our honeymoon (about a year and a half out!) might be a cruise.  I have been on Royal Carribean and Carnival - just didn't really know anything about celebrity cruises.

What are some of the differences?  Is it worth the extra cost?

TIA

Re: Celebrity Cruise Lines

  • I have a friend who cruises often, has tried all the cruise lines, and has cruised exclusively with Celebrity for probably 6 years now.  LOVES Celebrity.

I've cruised with Celebrity and Royal Caribbean.  The ships, food, and itineraries were nearly identical.  I paid about $600 more for Celebrity.  I would go with Royal Caribbean.

  • I've only cruised with Carnival and Royal Caribbean, but our neighbors RAVE about Celebrity and said they will never sail Carnival, NCL, or RC ever again. They said the service is incredible and the other cruise lines don't even come close to comparing in terms of service, decor, food, etc...

DH and I would love to check them out next, but may check out Disney Cruiseline as well which we've also heard is incredible.

We are sailing on Celebrity for our Honeymoon - a 12 night Med cruise.  We decided on Celebrity because of the reviews on cruisecritic, and reviews from family and friends.  Celebrity is much more upscale than Carnival or RC.  Celeb caters to a much older crowd, so its on the more expensive side and is not going to be as rowdy or "fun" as Carnival or RC.

I have been on several Carnival and RC cruises and while i had a fantastic time on them, i wouldnt necessarily use them for my honeymoon.  Fi and I wanted to splurge and treat ourselves for our honeymoon.   We know that at 29 years old we will probably be among the youngest people on the boat, but we are totally fine with that.

Every cruise line caters to a different crowd and pricepoint, and once you figure out what kind of honeymoon you want, it should be fairly easy to pick a cruise company.

It totally depends what you're looking for! DH and I cruised on the Celebrity Eclipse over Christmas on a 7 day Eastern Caribean cruise. This was our second cruise and had previously sailed with NCL. Although we had an amazing time, we felt the cruise lacked entertainment and people our age. If you want to keep to yourselves and arent too concerned with alot of activites, then it could probably be a good fit. Celebrity definitely has a sophisticated atmosphere, and very gorgeous modern decor and the service was really good. But we thought the food was just ok, we never felt like we had an amazing meal. Personally I think we'll sail Celebrity again but when were older, we just didnt feel it was worth the extra $ in our opinion. If you want more going on in terms of activities, entertainment after dinner and a younger crowd I would probably go with another cruise line. We are going to try Royal Caribean next time.

  • My Husband and I went out the Celebrity Solstice 7 night western Carrbean cruise this past February.  We went with his entire family, and it was a blast.  It was my first cruise, so I have nothing to compare it to, but the service was outstanding.  I'm not sure if you and your fiance drink, but Celebrity offers drink packages, and it was well worth it for my husband.  The service was outstanding...our housekeepers knew us by name.  Our waiters in the dining room knew they all liked to drink wine, so they always had the bottles of wine already on the table when we got there.  We had a blast, and would go again.  The only thing we thought was that it was a much older crowd.  But that didn't matter to us, since we were with his family.  They're a blast to be around.
